All Saturday weather dumped inches upon inches of snow on the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The Metrodome began compiling snow on it's rooftop. Workers then braved the elements to get to the stadium. At about noon on Saturday, officials turned up the heating system in the stadium. They have had to resort to this before. The roof heats up right where it needs to. The Globe and Mail describe it as such, "the system shoots hot air between a layer of fabric on the inside of the stadium, and the white, Teflon-coated fibreglass fabric on the outside."

When that failed workers tried to latch themselves to the roof and clear the area with water hoses. Their last attempt proved futile. An empty stadium was left to compile snow. Then at 5a.m. Sunday morning, the roof caved in dumping snow onto the playing surface.
The NFL had already postponed the game but also later reassigned it to Detroit's Ford Field. The Vikings and Lions will play their Sunday scheduled game there on Monday night.
