Mark Zuckerberg is Time Person of the Year

Mark Zuckerberg is Time Person of the Year - Breathe, eat, drink, sleep, defecate, and check Facebook: these make up a significant portion of a very short list of daily activities that you have in common with a quarter of a billion other humans. One item on this list is somewhat different from the rest. There are half a billion active Facebook users. Half of those log on daily. Facebook reached 500 million in July 2010, up from 250 million in July 2009. Try to think of something comparable. Good luck. Mark Zuckerberg is Time Person of the Year This isn’t just a change in format, like when we all gave up our cassette collections and resigned ourselves to re-buy everything on CD. This is a new kind of thing in the world and in our lives. That might sound like an extreme claim—after all, friendship and conversation and social groups certainly aren’t new—but in a very real sense, Facebook is not just a new way of doing old things, but a new way for things to be. That’s probably why ...

Mark Zuckerberg Pledges Donation

Mark Zuckerberg Pledges Donation - Social butterfly and bazillionaire Mark Zuckerberg has decided to heave his fortune onto the pile of philanthropy started by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett and all you can think of are nasty things to say: Easy for him to do. I'll believe it when I see it. Says here he can give it away when he's dead. He ain't going to miss it then. It's hard to love a billionaire, unless you're married to one. And more of his fellow tech titans should follow his example. Mark Zuckerberg Pledges Donation The hoodie-clad Facebook co-founder is making a difference, even before he gives away one penny as part of the "Giving Pledge." The pledge, you'll recall, is a scheme cooked up by Gates and Buffett to get the country's richest families to promise that they'll give away more ...

Mark Zuckerberg On 60 Minutes

Mark Zuckerberg On 60 Minutes - In an upcoming TV interview on Sunday night, 60 Minutes’ Lesley Stahl talks to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg about a number of things, one of them being Facebook’s new user profile pages. Stahl promises in a preview video that the public would see the overhauled design for the profile pages “for the first time tonight on 60 Minutes.” “You’re showing us something that no one else has seen yet — very soon, starting tomorrow,” says Stahl in the interview preview. This suggests that Zuckerberg originally intended to unveil the new profiles on Monday instead. That’s obviously not the case, since Facebook unveiled the update itself and is now allowing users to upgrade to the new profile already. So what happened? I’ve reached out to Facebook and CBS via email to ask, but in the meantime, we can only speculate. Perhaps one factor here was that CBS’s 60 Minutes scooped itself. The video preview allowed news sites to pick up on the story about the new ...
