Light Up Night Pittsburgh 2010 - Light Up Night is turning 50, and to celebrate, Fifth Avenue Place and its retailers will host family-friendly activities throughout a two-day celebration beginning Friday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. to Saturday, Nov. 20 until 7:30 p.m. Family programming will include the "magical" lighting of the Unity Tree, musical performances by area marching bands and visits by costumed holiday characters. "As Light Up Night turns 50, Fifth Avenue Place is especially excited to once again participate in the celebration," said Kerry Donahue, retail marketing specialist with the center. Alaska F22 Crash Pilot Identified - The Air Force on Thursday identified a pilot missing after the crash of an F-22 Raptor as military officials worked to set up camps off the Denali Highway in interior Alaska in preparation for a ground search. Capt. Jeffrey Haney is assigned to the 525th Fighter Squadron, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson spokeswoman Corinna Jones said. He is from Jackson, Mich. Haney, who is married with two children, joined the Air Force in 2003 and has been at the Anchorage base for 4 1/2 years, Jones said. Air Force personnel planned to search south of the highway, a 134-mile mostly gravel road that runs east from Cantwell, near the entrance to Denali National Park, to Paxson on the Richardson Highway. "We've got a pretty big logistical operation going on right now, getting equipment, supplies and personnel up to the crash site," said John Pennell, another spokesman for the Anchorage base. Philadelphia Marathon On Sunday - Although Karl Savage is not running in Sunday's Philadelphia Marathon due to an ankle injury, the Roxborough man knows the course and the race as well as anyone. Savage finished third last year in 2 hours, 26 minutes, 2 seconds, and the 31-year-old expects the times to be even better this year. "They changed the course this year, taking out one of the hills, so the times should be lower," said Savage, who instead will run in the half marathon that goes off at the same time as the 26.2-mile race. "This course is mostly flat and fast," Savage said, "so runners in good shape should really do well." City Representative Melanie Johnson, the executive director of the Philadelphia Marathon, said that construction on Kelly Drive forced the elimination of Lemon Hill from the course.
