Chrome OS Notebook Delayed

Chrome OS Notebook Delayed - Google's new operating system and I don't know each other very well -- not yet, anyway. I just met Chrome OS for the first time this morning, when a demo unit of Google's new Cr-48 notebook arrived at my office. The Cr-48 is considered a Chrome OS test notebook; it isn't a final product, and it isn't for sale. Google is sending the notebooks out to a limited group of people in order to get feedback on the system and get it ready for its public debut. When I first took the Cr-48 Chrome OS notebook out of its box, I was pleasantly surprised by how small and light it was. The notebook weighs 3.8 pounds, with a 12-inch display, built-in Webcam, trackpad, and full-sized keyboard. That's pretty much it; this thing is clearly designed for on-the-go use, and it doesn't have any unnecessary bells and whistles. Chrome OS Notebook Delayed Google has made much about the fact that its Chrome OS systems will boot up almost instantly -- ...

Chrome OS To Be Released Soon

Chrome OS To Be Released Soon - Google is expected announce more about Chrome OS, the Internet giant's browser-based operating system, and possibly unveil a Google-branded Chrome OS laptop at a news conference Tuesday morning. Chrome OS represents a major paradigm shift in computing and a potential treat to Microsoft. Announced in summer 2009, Chrome OS combines the operating system and the Web browser, making them one in the same. Most files, meanwhile, would be stored not on the computer, but on the Internet -- or, "in the cloud." It's a marked departure from the traditional operating system, such as Microsoft's Windows. An operating system is a thick layer of software that controls a computer's hardware, manages peripherals like mice and printers, facilitates networking and executes applications, such as Web browsers, that run on top of it. The graphical user interface is often considered part of the OS. Google, however, feels that most tasks today c...

Chrome OS For Netbooks Coming Soon

Chrome OS For Netbooks Coming Soon - All thanks to people like Michael Arrington, we’re often left to question the degree of legitimacy of a news piece. Anyways, you guys must’ve heard about the upcoming OS by Google. Yeah, it’s called the Chrome OS. Last time in the Web Kit 2.0 conference, Google’s CEO – Eric Schmidt said that the new operating system will be released in “few” months. By the way, Google is also going to release a Chrome Notebook to match along with the OS. If so, then we have another reason to wait for the OS. They’re already calling it the Chromebook, which may hold a few new features. We have an idea that the notebook and OS duo will make use of the cloud based services, but other than that, there’s nothing more to tell. The big question is that do we really need the Chrome OS to join the laptop and netbook platform? People say that this operating system is different in terms of core technicalities and functions. It may prove to be an invaluable asset to the ...

Google Chrome OS Launching Soon

Google Chrome OS Launching Soon - Google will sell a netbook based on its Chrome Operating System online similar to the way it sold its Nexus One smartphone, according to Digitimes. Chrome OS is a Web operating system Google is building to run on netbooks as an alternative to computers running traditional operating systems such as Microsoft's Windows and Apple's Mac. The platform, intended initially for netbooks sans local storage, will support Web applications running in Google's Chrome Web browser. Google introduced Chrome OS last November with a goal to have it running on netbooks by November 2010. Digitimes said Nov. 2 that the search engine will launch a Google-branded netbook built by Inventec through a Webstore online instead of through traditional retailers such as Best Buy. Shipments of this ARM chip-powered netbook will range from 60,000 to 70,000 units. Google declined to comment on what it deemed "rumor or speculation" from Digitimes, which ad...
