A winter weather advisory is in effect for southwestern Pennsylvania until 7 a.m. Tuesday, but locations to the east and north will be hit harder.
In Pittsburgh and nearby suburban areas, lake effect snow, coupled with winds that could gust to 30 mph, will cause hazardous travel conditions. Two to 4 inches are forecast to fall during the day with another inch or two tonight.
Snow Causes School Delays
A winter storm warning is in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for the ridges of Fayette and Westmoreland counties, and for all of Cambria and Somerset counties. As much as 10 inches could fall in lower elevations with as much as 15 inches on the ridgetops.
In the hours before dawn, suburban highways were mostly clear. Some side streets were snow covered and slippery. Just after 5 a.m., many Downtown streets had some snow on them.
