Meteor Shower Tonight

Meteor Shower Tonight - The rings of Saturn might have arisen after a species of spatial striptease. According to a study published today in the digital edition of Nature, the circles of ice that dance concerning the planet are the rests of an ancient frozen moon that was losing its crust as it was approaching the planet.

The system of rings is only in Saturn. Its origin is a mystery, since nobody has managed to explain why the million pieces of ice that form them are even composed of water in 95 %, an unusual purity.

Two domineering theories do not manage to explain in detail how there formed these discs, which together would form a satellite of approximately 500 kilometers of diameter, as tell Aurélien Crida and Sébastien Charnoz, astronomers of the National Center of Scientific Investigation of France.

The first hypothesis supports that the discs of ice are rests of an ancient moon that could burst million years ago. Saturn has 61 lunas, between them Titan, which has proper ambience. The second option would be that the rings are debris of the formation of the proper planet.

Now, a new theory enriches the first hypothesis. Its authoress is Robin Canup, an astrophysics of Southwest Research Institute (the USA) that there has developed a new computer model capable of explaining how the rings formed.
