State representative Frank Pratt was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital after he was ambushed at his business, Pratt Pools, in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney says Pratt is in stable condition with multiple bruises and contusions and at least one fracture.
Gaffney says the attack happened after the 68-year-old stopped by Pratt Pools and was confronted by someone already inside.

Pratt was tied up after the beating and found Saturday evening by his wife, who went looking for him when he didn't come home and failed to answer his phone.
Gaffney says the suspect fled in Pratt's SUV, a gold 2007 GMC Yukon.
There was no word if police had identified a suspect, if the attack was random or if anything else was stolen.
Pratt is going into his second term as Republican representative for House District 23.
Pratt's wife said he will likely miss the governor's inauguration on January 3, but he plans to attend the Legislature's start on January 11.
