NJ State of Emergency 2010 Due To Blizzard - Mayor Dawn Zimmer has declared a Hoboken in a state of emergency as high winds blow heavy snowfall throughout the state.

Yet, City Hall will be remain open Monday and all essential employees are required to report to work, according to a news release from the city.

Zimmer is urging residents to stay indoors and reminds them that all sidewalks must be cleared of snow within six hours of the end of the storm, which is predicted to taper off by tomorrow evening. Dumping or shoveling snow into restricted fire hydrants areas or into City streets is a violation of the law and subject to a fine.

In the meantime, the Hoboken Parking Utility will allow Hoboken residents with residential parking permits to keep their vehicles in Garages B and D for $5 from 4 this afternoon to 8 a.m. tomorrow.

NJ Transit has suspended all bus service as of 8:30 tonight and all rail lines will be operating on enhanced weekend schedule, except for the Atlantic City line. To plan a rail trip on njtransit.com, riders should use January 17, 2011 as their travel date and expect to make transfers.

Man Hits Teen on Plane Over iPhone - Police say a man on a Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas punched a teenager who refused to turn off his iPhone as the plane approached the Boise airport. Officers arrested 68-year-old Russell E. Miller, of Boise, on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Tuesday. He has been released from jail on bond. Witnesses told police the 15-year-old was playing games and listening to music on his cell phone when flight attendants instructed passengers to turn off their electronic devices because the plane was landing. Witnesses told police that when the teen didn't respond, Miller got angry and punched the boy in the arm. Miller says he "tapped" the teen on the shoulder after he refused to turn off the phone. Contactless Debit Cards - Contactless debit cards will make their formal debut in Canada next year with the launch of Interac Flash from Acxsys Corp.’s Interac Association, Canada’s national debit network. Interac’s first two Flash issuers are Scotiabank and RBC Royal Bank, which will roll out their first contactless cards next summer. The first acquirer is TD Merchant Services, a unit of Toronto-Dominion Bank. More issuers and acquirers are on the way, an Interac spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News, though no announcements have been made yet. Interac and the banks tested Flash this summer at some high-volume, small-ticket merchants in downtown Toronto.
