Kate William Holiday Apart - According to NBC's Today Show, the "it" couple of the moment, Prince William and Catherine Middleton, spent Christmas apart this year. As YA Pop Culture let you know before the holiday, the newly engaged couple, who will have the world's attention upon them when they marry in a public ceremony this spring, had different plans for their last Christmas as unmarried young adults.

According to Robert Jobson of News of the World, reporting on NBC's Today Show, the couple spent Christmas Eve together at Prince Charles's country home, Highgrove.

Then Prince William volunteered to work on Christmas Day in his job as a search and rescue pilot for the RAF. The RAF, Mr. Jobson said, likes to give holiday time off to men and women with families and encourages single adults to work in their stead.

Catherine Middleton went to her parents' home when she spent Christmas Day with her family "for the final time," according to Mr. Jobson, in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Single people have families and friends to visit on the holidays too. I'm single, and I wouldn't volunteer to work the holiday, and would be offended if the reason for the request was that I wasn't married and haven't bred.

Instead of targeting people based on maritial status, how about asking people of other religions to volunteer? The Christians in turn could work on holidays celebrated by Jews, Muslims, etc.

Man Hits Teen on Plane Over iPhone - Police say a man on a Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas punched a teenager who refused to turn off his iPhone as the plane approached the Boise airport. Officers arrested 68-year-old Russell E. Miller, of Boise, on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Tuesday. He has been released from jail on bond. Witnesses told police the 15-year-old was playing games and listening to music on his cell phone when flight attendants instructed passengers to turn off their electronic devices because the plane was landing. Witnesses told police that when the teen didn't respond, Miller got angry and punched the boy in the arm. Miller says he "tapped" the teen on the shoulder after he refused to turn off the phone. Contactless Debit Cards - Contactless debit cards will make their formal debut in Canada next year with the launch of Interac Flash from Acxsys Corp.’s Interac Association, Canada’s national debit network. Interac’s first two Flash issuers are Scotiabank and RBC Royal Bank, which will roll out their first contactless cards next summer. The first acquirer is TD Merchant Services, a unit of Toronto-Dominion Bank. More issuers and acquirers are on the way, an Interac spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News, though no announcements have been made yet. Interac and the banks tested Flash this summer at some high-volume, small-ticket merchants in downtown Toronto.
