Oscar Ballots Mailed - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced they've mailed out the Oscar nomination ballots to 5,755 voting members of the Academy. Ballots are due back on January 14, 2011 at 5pm PT (and yes, they are very strict about that deadline).

There are 248 feature films eligible to be considered in the Best Picture category, and it would be really interesting to learn how many films on average each Academy voter watches before casting his or her votes. Studios mail out screeners of films they are pushing, but the numbers of screeners sent out is nowhere near 248.

PricewaterhouseCoopers is once again in charge of tallying the votes. Nominees will be announced on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 5:30 a.m. PT. The 83rd Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, CA.

'Green Hornet' Star Edward Furlong Jailed - Troubled former teen star Edward Furlong was thrown in jail Tuesday for allegedly violating a restraining order against his estranged wife, just hours after attending the Hollywood premiere of his new film, “The Green Hornet.” Furlong was arrested during a progress hearing Tuesday morning over the 100-yard, three-year restraining order taken out by Rachael Kneeland, People reported.
