About 1,200 travelers were stranded at the airport overnight as a major snowstorm passed over the Philadelphia and its suburbs on Sunday, forcing airlines to cancel flights, according to Victoria Lupica, a spokewoman for the airport.

A number of overnight and early morning flights were canceled due to the winter storm. Airport personnel worked to make stranded passengers more comfortable, offering food, water and juice as well as pillows and blankets.
An exact tally of canceled flights was not yet available this morning, but Lupica said a primary runway was kept open throughout the storm.
"We have been operational in terms of arrivals and departures," Lupica said in a phone interview.
The airport mobilized 400 employees who made use of 200 pieces of snow removal equipment to keep the airfield safe.
