Following the arrival of the first commissioning cargo of LNG at the terminal in Kent, England, on Oct. 29, "the commissioning process has been completed in just over a month, delivering a 50% increase in terminal capacity for the start of winter," it said.
The total capacity of Grain has increased to 650 gigawatt hours per day, or around 59 million cubic meters of gas, enough to supply about 20% of U.K. demand, according to the statement.
The expansion provides capacity for new customers E.ON Ruhrgas, the gas unit of German utility E.ON AG (EOAN.XE), and Spain's Iberdrola (IBE.MC), together with additional capacity for existing customer U.K. utility Centrica PLC(CNA.LN).
Grain has the largest tank capacity of any terminal in the U.K. with total LNG storage availability of 1 million cubic meters. The new second unloading jetty is capable of berthing and unloading Q-Max vessels, the largest available LNG carriers in the world.
