"Early" has been struggling for more than a decade and has gone through three executive producers in as many years.
Unfortunately for co-anchors Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez, as well as weatherman Dave Price, they will not be part of that new vision.
As of Jan. 3, Erica Hill and Chris Wragge will become co-anchors. Marysol Castro will replace Price as the weathercaster and Jeff Glor becomes the newscaster.
Hill and Wragge were previously the Saturday "Early Show" anchors, while Glor anchors Saturday's "CBS Evening News."
Smith, meanwhile, will return to his hard news background. He will become the substitute anchor for "Evening News with Katie Couric" and "Face the Nation." Rodriguez and Price are expected to stay on at CBS for the time being, but they do not have any new assignments.
There's not much risk involved in the overhaul. "Early" is already in last place among the morning shows, averaging 2.5 million total viewers last season, its worst average in 10 years and less than half of rival "Today" on NBC, long the top morning show.
