Some subways have stopped in the middle of stops. In Queens, an estimated 500 passengers were stuck on a disabled Manhattan bound A train that was stalled in snow drifts near John F. Kennedy airport.
A transit spokesperson says that ice and snow drifts on the thrid rail stalled a train between the Aqueuduct and Broad Channel stops. Passengers were stuck on the train for six hours. The train was filled with travelers from JFK airport who already waited hours for flights that were ultimatly canceled. They then had to wait for someone to rescue them from a disabled train.
The train was moved to the Aquaduct station but passengers had to wait to be released. Passengers aboard the train say they did not have food, water or heat.
