Golden, 41, led the Owls to a 8-4 record this season, but the Owls were not invited to a bowl game. This year's success comes after Temple went 9-4 in 2009 and played in the EagleBank Bowl, the first postseason game for the school since 1979.

Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman, Connecticut coach Randy Edsall and Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville were reportedly other finalists for the job.
