White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told CNN's Candy Crowley that President Obama has done extremely well in quitting, and hasn't smoked in about nine months.
Gibbs said this is the longest Obama has gone without a cigarette since they met about eight years ago.
“He has done enormously well in quitting,” Gibbs said. “It was a commitment that I think he made to himself at the end of healthcare with his two daughters in mind.”
Gibbs added that the president still chews nicotine gum, but has used "stubborn willpower" to quit.
