Newcastle United officials are expected to confirm the appointment of the former West Ham manager on a long-term deal on Thursday morning following a day of discussions in the North East with the Premier League club’s hierarchy.

It is understood Pardew, 49, will be handed a five-and-a-half year contract at the Premier League club – where Ray Lewington is being lined up as his No 2 – unless there is an unforeseen 11th-hour hitch in negotiations which have taken place with fans left underwhelmed by Newcastle owner Mike Ashley’s decision to replace the sacked Chris Hughton.
Pardew, who headed to the North East from a training course in Germany but he did not visit the club’s stadium or training complex, will be paraded before the media on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning before pitting his wits against Liverpool counterpart Roy Hodgson on Saturday in Newcastle.
