Before Sandler became the music ambassador to Chanukah, he musically spoofed other holidays in his typically random fashion. In 1992, he commemorated Thanksgiving while peppering in references to Darryl Strawberry, Mike Tyson, Betty Grable and Sammy Davis Jr.
Perhaps without the Adam Sandler Thanksgiving song, he wouldn't have been able to sing about Chanukah - and then do two more songs and a movie about it. Similar Turkey Day spinoffs haven't emerged from this number, however.
Nevertheless, it seems to serve as an anthem for the holiday, especially since it doesn't have traditional ones. The day is defined by parades, football, massive eating, and the first signs of the Christmas season. Yet it isn't usually considered to be a musical holiday.
