Police believe the heist occurred between Nov. 24 and 28 when the owners were away celebrating Thanksgiving, but no one discovered the artworks were missing until Thursday night and police did not say why.
The thieves gained access to the apartment by carving a tunnel through the wall of an adjacent hallway, New York City police said.

The stolen collection included the Warhol prints "Superman," "The Truck" and a signed, eight-piece series titled "Camoflage." The collection included works by Roy Lichtenstein, the prints "Thinking Nude" and "Landscape."
An oil painting titled "Live Cat" by Carl Fudge was taken.
It wasn't known if the owners insured the works.
The thieves took jewelry and luxury watches, police said. Investigators believe professionals likely committed the theft, because a video recorder connected to a surveillance camera system in the apartment was removed.
