Jim Thorpe was given an early release after been sentenced to one year in prison. Thorpe pleaded guilty for failure to pay $1.6 million in taxes from 2002 to 2004 in September 2009. On January 2010 he was given a one year sentence. Thorpe had been held at Federal Prison Camp located on Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.
In 2000, he joined the 50-and-older tour. In February 2010, he was suspended from the Champions Tour, sentenced to one year in prison, two years of supervised release and 200 hours of community service.
He was ranked 7th all time on the senior tour as of 2010, earning $13 million. His last tournament win was the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in 2007. He will now have to pay $2 million to the IRS plus interest and penalties.
