Landon Donovan Divorce - Separated from his "Rules of Engagement" actress wife for more than a year, professional soccer player Landon Donovan has taken steps to end his marriage officially.

The Team U.S.A. hero in the World Cup filed for divorce Tuesday from Bianca Kajlich, according to Los Angeles Superior Court papers.

"We remain the closest of friends and will always be important parts of each other's lives," the pair say in a joint statement.

Donovan, 28, who wed Kajlich, 33, on New Year's Eve 2006, separated from her in October 2009, according to the divorce petition.

About a year later, reports surfaced they were possibly reconciling after the World Cup. But days later, Donovan faced rumors he had fathered a love child with an unidentified British woman.

The reports turned out to be untrue, with Donovan telling E! Online, "I will not be a dad any time soon, which is good news for me."

Citing irreconcilable differences, Donovan is seeking spousal support, as well as attorney fees. The pair have no children.
