Green Bay announced yesterday that starter Aaron Rodgers is out for the 8:20 showdown against the Patriots, as the concussion he suffered last week will prevent him from playing. Rodgers was not cleared by the team’s medical staff.
That means backup Matt Flynn will make his first NFL start in a game that will go a long way in deciding the Packers’ playoff fate.
Flynn, the former seventh-round pick out of LSU, was 15-of-26 for 177 yards with an interception in a loss to the Detroit Lions last Sunday.

All week the Patriots had been adamant they were preparing for the Packers offense in general, not a specific quarterback.
“We’re getting ready for everybody,” safety Brandon Meriweather said. “Not Matt Flynn, not just Aaron Rodgers, we’re getting ready for their whole team. They got a good team. They got a bunch of weapons. For me to sit here and try to break down every one, it’ll take forever.”
Packers coach Mike McCarthy said earlier this week that the goal is for the offense not to change if the quarterback does.
