Liberty University is announcing a major expansion on campus that will carry a hefty price tag, but an exact total still isn't known.
The University says its ultimate goal is to be for Evangelical Christians, what Notre Dame University is for Catholics. The school's chancellor says now is the time to start reaching that goal.
"Construction prices have never been lower and frankly we just need the space," said Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr.
Recession or not, Liberty University is about to begin a major campus expansion. Chancellor Falwell says it will change the look of campus.
"Financially our school has grown and improved as much as you've seen physically, and we are in a position to really move to the next level," said Falwell.
Falwell says the changes include a brand new: health sciences building, visitors center, inter-mural fields and parking lots.
Construction would also include demolishing some older buildings on campus and creating a traditional college green.
A pedestrian bridge across Wards Road is also in the works, in conjunction with the city of Lynchburg.
"It's sort of a rearranging of a lot of our academic programs, shifting of locations and a beautifying of campus," explained Falwell.
