That's right, after nearly 30 years on "Sesame Street," Cookie Monster is ready for his debut on live TV and, to prove it, he put together an audition tape that dazzles. We're trying to decide on our favorite part: Is it when he's foiled by an explosive situation in a take-off on the show's MacGyver parody? When he nails a newsworthy punchline in his version of "Weekend Update?" Or is it his melodious performance as "Cookie Gaga," complete with fancy eyelashes and a cookie -- not meat -- dress.
We think SNL creator Lorne Michaels should give the talented monster a shot -- especially in light of a report from the New York Daily News that the Muppets -- who were regularly featured on SNL's first season back in 1975 -- were banned from the show for 28 years because some of the SNL writers refused to "write for felt." Can you say "discrimination suit?"
