Whitneys Mother Cissy - Whitney Houston's mother, Cissy Houston has expressed her devastation at the loss of her daughter, who died Saturday afternoon as she was preparing to attend a pre-Grammy Awards party in California. She described the death of her daughter as an "unimaginable tragedy." "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Whitney," the gospel singer said in a statement according to OnTheRedCarpet.com. "This is an unimaginable tragedy and we will miss her terribly. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support from her fans and friends." The 78-year-old mother has reported that she talked to her daughter just half an hour before she was found unconscious in a hotel room bath tub. It has also been reported that Houston talked to her cousin Dionne Warwick just several hours earlier to confirm seating arrangements at that evening's party, according to TMZ. However, it was to be a party that Houston would never attend, and the pop icon was later pronounced dead at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, California on Saturday, Feb. 11. Houston had a well-documented fight with drug and alcohol abuse over the years, and she was in rehab just in May of last year following a relapse to her old addictions. But she was reported to have been healthy in the days prior to her death, and just two days before tragedy struck she gave what became her final performance, singing "Yes Jesus Loves Me" at an LA nightclub. Bobby Brown, Houston's ex-husband, who was on a reunion tour with New Edition, is reportedly devastated at the news. Man Hits Teen on Plane Over iPhone - Police say a man on a Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas punched a teenager who refused to turn off his iPhone as the plane approached the Boise airport. Officers arrested 68-year-old Russell E. Miller, of Boise, on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Tuesday. He has been released from jail on bond. Witnesses told police the 15-year-old was playing games and listening to music on his cell phone when flight attendants instructed passengers to turn off their electronic devices because the plane was landing. Witnesses told police that when the teen didn't respond, Miller got angry and punched the boy in the arm. Miller says he "tapped" the teen on the shoulder after he refused to turn off the phone. Contactless Debit Cards - Contactless debit cards will make their formal debut in Canada next year with the launch of Interac Flash from Acxsys Corp.’s Interac Association, Canada’s national debit network. Interac’s first two Flash issuers are Scotiabank and RBC Royal Bank, which will roll out their first contactless cards next summer. The first acquirer is TD Merchant Services, a unit of Toronto-Dominion Bank. More issuers and acquirers are on the way, an Interac spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News, though no announcements have been made yet. Interac and the banks tested Flash this summer at some high-volume, small-ticket merchants in downtown Toronto.
