Last week's leader "No Strings Attached," the romantic romp starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, slipped to second place. The Ivan Reitman film about casual sex between friends took in $13.7 million.
Tied in third place were action movie "The Green Hornet" and new release "The Mechanic," both with $11.5 million.
Other films basked in the glow of an Oscars nomination bump.
During its 10th week in theaters, British historical drama "The King's Speech" was in the fifth spot after drawing 12 nominations from the Oscars race. It earned $11.1 million, for a total of $72.2 million so far.
Colin Firth has also captured the best actor award for portraying a stuttering King George VI.
The Western "True Grit" came in sixth, with $7.6 million.
