Annette Bening "The Kids are all Right" - In movies, Annette Bening took home the award as best actress in a comedy or musical for her role as a suburban lesbian mom in The Kids Are All Right. She paid tribute to one of her rivals in the category, Julianne Moore, who played her partner in the film, and talked her into doing the movie.

"Julianne, you are a class act, thank you," she said. She also paid tribute to whom she called the 1962 award winner for "most promising young actor," her husband Warren Beatty.

Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 3, a box-office juggernaut, won for best animated feature film, against major competition such as Disney itself for Tangled.

Christian Bale took the night's first award, for best supporting actor in The Fighter, the story of a Massachusetts boxer and his family and their effort to win a championship. The Fighter is also up for five other awards, including best picture, at the 68th annual Globes, the prizes for film and TV handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Bale accepted the award, joking that he never really knew much about the HFPA "and now I realize how perceptive they are."

Man Hits Teen on Plane Over iPhone - Police say a man on a Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas punched a teenager who refused to turn off his iPhone as the plane approached the Boise airport. Officers arrested 68-year-old Russell E. Miller, of Boise, on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Tuesday. He has been released from jail on bond. Witnesses told police the 15-year-old was playing games and listening to music on his cell phone when flight attendants instructed passengers to turn off their electronic devices because the plane was landing. Witnesses told police that when the teen didn't respond, Miller got angry and punched the boy in the arm. Miller says he "tapped" the teen on the shoulder after he refused to turn off the phone. Contactless Debit Cards - Contactless debit cards will make their formal debut in Canada next year with the launch of Interac Flash from Acxsys Corp.’s Interac Association, Canada’s national debit network. Interac’s first two Flash issuers are Scotiabank and RBC Royal Bank, which will roll out their first contactless cards next summer. The first acquirer is TD Merchant Services, a unit of Toronto-Dominion Bank. More issuers and acquirers are on the way, an Interac spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News, though no announcements have been made yet. Interac and the banks tested Flash this summer at some high-volume, small-ticket merchants in downtown Toronto.
