iPad 3G - The price of a new 3G-connected iPad just dropped.

That version of the iPad isn’t due out for about a month, but new discounting by Palm means you could have a 3G-connected iPad sooner and a lot cheaper.

The first iteration of the iPad, available Saturday, will connect to the Internet only by Wi-Fi. The other version, due later this month, will connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi and the AT&T mobile phone network providing a nearly ubiquitous connection (assuming you can get an AT&T connection). Two AT&T cell plans are offered, neither requiring a contract. The $15 one-month plan is capped at 250 megabytes. The $30 one-month plan is unlimited. It also cost $130 more.

The Verizon Palm Pre Plus acts as a Wi-Fi hotspot to make Wi-Fi-only iPads act like 3G iPads.

If you are in the market for a phone and an iPad you can save money.

Buy any one of a number of cell devices that work as Wi-Fi hot spots so you have the same nearly ubiquitous connection you’d have with the iPad 3G. These devices connect to the Internet through the wireless phone network. Among them are Sprint’s and Verizon’s MiFi 2200, the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi Plus smartphones.

Man Hits Teen on Plane Over iPhone - Police say a man on a Southwest Airlines flight from Las Vegas punched a teenager who refused to turn off his iPhone as the plane approached the Boise airport. Officers arrested 68-year-old Russell E. Miller, of Boise, on suspicion of misdemeanor battery Tuesday. He has been released from jail on bond. Witnesses told police the 15-year-old was playing games and listening to music on his cell phone when flight attendants instructed passengers to turn off their electronic devices because the plane was landing. Witnesses told police that when the teen didn't respond, Miller got angry and punched the boy in the arm. Miller says he "tapped" the teen on the shoulder after he refused to turn off the phone. Contactless Debit Cards - Contactless debit cards will make their formal debut in Canada next year with the launch of Interac Flash from Acxsys Corp.’s Interac Association, Canada’s national debit network. Interac’s first two Flash issuers are Scotiabank and RBC Royal Bank, which will roll out their first contactless cards next summer. The first acquirer is TD Merchant Services, a unit of Toronto-Dominion Bank. More issuers and acquirers are on the way, an Interac spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News, though no announcements have been made yet. Interac and the banks tested Flash this summer at some high-volume, small-ticket merchants in downtown Toronto.
