South Park Creators Broadway

South Park Creators Broadway - A satirical Broadway show about Mormons who travel from Utah to Uganda by the creators of "South Park" scored rave reviews on Friday from critics who called it the best musical comedy since "The Producers." "The Book of Mormon," which was seven years in the making for Trey Parker and Matt Stone, opened on the Great White Way on Thursday night to reviews that said it balanced clever, humorous songs and lyrics with heartfelt reflections on faith. For Broadway doubters, "the ones who say that heaven on Broadway does not exist, that it's only some myth our ancestors dreamed up, I am here to report that a newborn, old-fashioned, pleasure-giving musical has arrived," the New York Times said. The Times said it perfectly balanced a sharp, irreverent tone, which is "blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak," with themes that test the ideals of faith and has a heart

Florida School Nut Allergy Restrictions

Florida School Nut Allergy Restrictions - A Florida elementary school beset by parental protests is scrapping some of the more severe restrictions it had implemented to protect a first-grader with a severe allergy to nuts, such as obliging classmates to rinse their mouths twice daily with water. Parents were told Wednesday that students at Edgewater Public School, south of Daytona Beach, no longer have to rinse their mouths upon arriving and again after lunch. The school also is easing up on restrictions on classroom snacks, though pupils still must wash their hands and faces at school to avoid introducing nut residue into the classrooms. The measures were implemented earlier to protect a first-grader who could develop breathing problems from contact with nuts. But some parents protested outside school, saying that the measures went too far. Florida School Nut Allergy Restrictions

' Courteney also revealed she and 39-year-old David - with who she has six-year-old daughter Coco - are able to get along better than ever, though she admits it is 'weird' to be in a position of having to examine their relationship. Abandoned Deaf Puppy

Abandoned Deaf Puppy - Alice, an 8-week-old black and white springer spaniel, was taken to an animal rescue centre after she was abandoned in Ireland. Staff at the centre which took her in instantly knew the puppy would need specialist training and that most people would not want a pup who could not hear commands. But luckily a deaf couple, Marie Williams and Mark Morgan happend to be looking for a dog and decided Alice would be the perfect pet for them. The pair have now started teaching the pup sign language and can use it to instruct her to sit down, sit up, come and roll over. Abandoned Deaf Puppy

Billy Ray Cyrus Could Have Been Better

Billy Ray Cyrus Could Have Been Better - Country music singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus made waves when he said the Disney Channel TV show "Hannah Montana" destroyed his family, led to his divorce and caused his daughter, singer/actress Miley Cyrus to spin out of control. But this morning on "Good Morning America," the 49-year-old Cyrus sought to clarify those comments, telling "GMA" host Robin Roberts that a lot of what was written in the Feb. 22 issue of GQ Magazine "wasn't exactly what I said." "The way they wrote it, 'Hannah Montana,' you know, destroyed my family -- what I mean to say, and what I hope I said was, fame, the pressures of fame … fame can be a dangerous animal," Cyrus said. "And it's a delicate thing. It's funny. You know, when you get in this industry and … you strike so hard for that moment. But, fame is dangerous …" He said his family was upset with him for the comments to GQ.

Royal Philharmonic Plants

Royal Philharmonic Plants - The 33-member orchestra played a three-hour recital to an auditorium packed with greenery to help test the theory that plants grow better when played classical music. The unorthodox audience was made up of over 100 different varieties of plants and bulbs including geraniums, fuchsias and perennials. Scientists have claimed that classical music - and the reverberation of sound waves - is thought to stimulate protein production in plants. In theory, this is thought to lead to increased plant growth, although experts have long been divided on the subject. Researchers have previously exposed rice plants to classical music and noted that some samples responded to noise levels with increased gene activity. A 2007 study by the South Korea National Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology showed two samples reacted positively to 14 different pieces of classical music. Royal Philharmonic Plants

Displaced People Global High

Displaced People Global High - The number of internally displaced people worldwide reached 27.5 million in 2010, the highest number since the mid-1990s even though the situation in Africa improved, a refugee agency said on Wednesday. While refugees who cross a country's external border gain rights under international law, internally displaced people (IDPs) who have been forced to move due to conflict or hunger have no such rights in many countries. The number of IDPs in Africa fell by 4 percent to 11.1 million, while all other regions showed an increase, according to the annual report by the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center of the Norwegian Refugee Council. By comparison, there are about 15 million refugees worldwide, the report said. "This positive (African) trend gives us hope," said the report. "Indeed, the African continent remains at the forefront of policy development in support of IDP rights." The African Union (AU) in 2009 adopted the K

Maya Rudolph Baby

Maya Rudolph Baby - Maya Rudolph will be a mama once again, as the pregnant actress is preparing to welcome her third child with her longtime partner, according to People.com sources. Soon to be starring as a bride in the upcoming comedy 'The Bridesmaids' (not to be confused with last year's Raven-Symone TV movie 'Revenge of the Bridesmaids'!), Rudolph is already mother to two daughters -- Pearl, born in 2005, and Lucille, born in 2009 -- with live-in love Paul Thomas Anderson, acclaimed director of 'Boogie Nights' and 'There Will Be Blood.' Rudolph was a 'Saturday Night Live' regular when she got pregnant the first time around, and she won critical raves on the big screen portraying a mom-to-be on a road trip with John Krasinski in 2009's 'Away We Go.' So the 38-year-old and her new baby bump should be right at home in front of the camera as she promotes 'Bridesmaids' (produced by Judd Apatow, and costarring Kristen

Tiger Blood Drink

Tiger Blood Drink - It all started with Charlie Sheen's humble description of his impeccable circulatory system. In a now legendary interview with NBC's Today Show, Sheen boasted that he was not like ordinary people in that "tiger blood" flows through his veins. With his words quickly becoming an internet meme, Sheen decided that putting some tiger blood in his stomach would also prove entertaining for his many fans. So, after being officially fired by Warner Brothers on Monday, Sheen took to a California rooftop with a machete, a bottle allegedly filled with tiger blood, and one of his two goddesses for a little showing off. 1. Tiger Blood a la Diddy Over the weekend, Diddy tweeted his recipe for a simple yet elegant Tiger Blood cocktail. 2. Tiger Blood energy potion For a limited time, Harcos Laboratories is offering Bi-Winning Tiger Blood, "specifically to make your brain fire in a way that's not from this particular terrestrial realm." Mariah Carey Gushes Baby Shower Gift

Mariah Carey Gushes Baby Shower Gift - Mariah Carey got a ton of presents for her baby shower Sunday night – but one heartfelt gift stood out from all the rest. "The Always Be My Babies 'Lamb Book' is definitely my new prized possession and I can't thank the Lambs around the world enough for your letters & well wishes," Carey, who often calls her most dedicated fans "lambs," wrote on her Web site Monday. The book cover is illustrated with a blue and a pink baby carriage, along with family photos of Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon, 31. It was created using short letters and poems her fans wrote to the babies. "We so had a 'moment' in the middle of the shower when they presented the book to me and everyone thought it was the cutest, most thoughtful thing ever!" Carey recalled. "Clearly, only the Lambs would swing something like that home!!! It was the best moment of the night. I can't wait for the twins to read the

Skeptical Meteorite Alien Life

Skeptical Meteorite Alien Life - The gaps and stringy fibers in these space rocks sure look like bacteria, and a NASA researcher has caused a stir with claims that they're fossils of alien life. But as NASA found 15 years ago, looks can be deceiving. Top scientists in different disciplines immediately found pitfalls in a newly published examination of three meteorites that went viral on the Internet over the weekend. NASA and its top scientists disavowed the work by noon Monday. Biologists said just because it looks as though the holes were made by bacteria doesn't make them fossils of extraterrestrial microbes. The meteorites could be riddled with Earthly contamination. And both astronomers and biologists complained that the study was not truly reviewed by peers. There are questions about the credentials of the study's author, Richard Hoover. And the work appeared in an online journal that raises eyebrows because even its editor acknowledges it may have to shut down

Johnny Depp Rango

Johnny Depp Rango - Johnny Depp is now truly the Lizard King. At least at the box office. "Rango" was the #1 movie in America over the weekend with an estimated $38 million opening, according to studio estimates. The animated film reteams Depp with his "Pirates of the Caribbean" director Gore Verbinski, and also includes the voice talents of Isla Fisher ("Wedding Crashers"), Timothy Olyphant ("Live Free or Die Hard") and Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine"). It's an impressive debut for the reptilian adventure tale, which features Depp as the title character — a chameleon who becomes sheriff of a dusty desert town. Matt Damon enjoyed his biggest opening as a leading man since 2007's "The Bourne Ultimatum" with the fantastical action/romance "The Adjustment Bureau," which was #2 at the box office with a $20.9 million debut. "Beastly," the teen-friendly retelling of "Beauty and the Bea

Willow Smith 21st Century Girl

Willow Smith 21st Century Girl - An old woman (played by Cicely Tyson) walks in the desert, mumbling to herself when she comes across bone fragments. As she digs her way through the sand, she finds various objects. The sand begins to rumble and out comes a hooded Willow Smith. The woman whispers something in her ear and disappears. Taking a look around, Willow grabs some dirt and a butterfly emerges out of nothing. Thus begins the video for "21st Century Girl." Looking fierce in a red and yellow outfit, Smith shows some swagga as she runs through the desert, singing the girl-power song, pulling guitars from the sand with wolves and other precocious kids at her side. Her crew pulls remnants from the 21st century out of the sand. Among the bikes and skateboards is a metropolis, complete with skyscrapers that grow from the dry land. In this cityscape, Willow dons new threads: leopard tights, yellow shorts and a sassy T-shirt that reads, "Boys need training." She

Mark Zuckerberg Adopts Dog

Mark Zuckerberg Adopts Dog - "A million puppies isn't cool. You know what's cool? A billion puppies." So goes an oft-misattributed quote from Aaron Sorkin's "The Social Network Part II: ZuckerBoogaloo," in which founder Mark Zuckerberg quickly befriends and then screws over a young, naive Puli puppy named Beast. The story broke in early March of 2011, when Mark and his girlfriend Priscilla Chan adopted this Hungarian Sheepdog and relocated him to Palo Alto due to the dog's great herding skills and ability to make Mark look more like a human being and less like an automaton. Also, that dog could code like the dickens. Of course, we all know the story from here: Mark created a Facebook profile for Beast, attributing quotes to the dog that he would later have to explain in a closed-room deposition after the puppy sued Mark for misrepresentation. "I do not have an interest in 'Cuddling, Loving and Eating,' and am offended at the imp

Virgin confirmed that the incident did occur but said Williamson's husband was playing a peek-a-boo game with Riley when the flight attendant joined in. "We conducted a thorough investigation of the incident and the staff member involved was subsequently terminated," a Virgin spokeswoman told the Herald Sun. Jimmy Fallon Charlie Sheen

Jimmy Fallon Charlie Sheen - The self-imposed Charlie Sheen media barrage is so ever-present and so funny on its own that it almost doesn't need help from late night comedians. That hasn't stopped Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel from making cracks about Sheen and his behavior. On "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," the comedian aired a fake commercial for "Charlie Sheen Winning" cologne, with Fallon playing Sheen. In his introduction to the ad, Fallon said the cologne's scent "combines the delightful aromas of sweat, cigarettes and denial." David Letterman has been on the Charlie Sheen train for weeks. On Wednesday, he compared supercomputer Watson - who famously beat two humans in "Jeopardy!" - to Sheen. In a video called, "Watson: Where is he now?," a narrator says, "He wasn't programmed to handle the harsh glare of the spotlight. After a 36-hour cocaine binge with adult film stars, Wat

James Franco Yale Feud

James Franco Yale Feud - A writer for the Yale University student newspaper says a perceived feud between her and actor and fellow Yale student James Franco has been blown out of proportion. Cokey Cohen tells The New Haven Register that her critical blogs of Franco's Twitter posts and pictures while he was co-hosting the Oscars were "tongue-in-cheek" and just part of her duties as a blogger on youth culture for the Yale Daily News. Her blog postings, as well as Franco's at times rude responses, were all in fun and she's surprised they drew so much attention. The 20-year-old junior and English major says she's actually a big fan of Franco. Franco is pursuing a doctorate in English at Yale. A call to Franco's California-based publicist before business hours Thursday wasn't immediately returned. James Franco Yale Feud

Trent Reznor Abraham Lincoln

Trent Reznor Abraham Lincoln - Newly minted Oscar-winner (and Severus Snape look-alike) Trent Reznor is already set to continue his career as a high-profile motion picture composer by reuniting with director David Fincher for his English-language adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Now the Nine Inch Nails creator is circling another project, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, with the intention of not only scoring the film, but starring in the historical horror adventure as well. The Goth musician tried his hand at a feature-length film soundtrack last year by collaborating with Atticus Ross on the ominous electronica score for The Social Network – ultimately netting an Academy Award in the process. Reznor may not only be working on the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter adaptation behind the scenes, but in front of the camera as well. He reportedly is in line to play the vampire who kills Lincoln’s mother and inspires the future 16th U.S. president to dedicate his life to

Top Overpaid Celebrities 2011

The following is a list of the top overpaid celebrities. All are making millions of dollars a year, but it’s debatable whether all have truly earned their money. The Most Overpaid Celebrities The Kardashians: This celebrity family made $65 million dollars last year, more than Tom Cruise, Sandra Bullock and Angelina Jolie’s incomes for 2010 combined. They’ve generated their wealth from reality TV shows, books, perfumes, etc. Other than their attractiveness and famous step-father, none of the Kardashian women have really done anything to earn their fame. Rodney King 20 Years

Rodney King 20 Years - Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the Rodney King beating, which was coincidentally caught on tape by a voyeuristic bystander, George Holliday. Unbeknown to Holliday that night, the nine minutes of taping would change the criminal justice system forever. With new technological advancements and the Internet, anyone with a cellphone now can lend a watchful eye on the police. Today, things are far different and the tape that so tainted the LAPD has a clear legacy in how officers think about their jobs. Police now work in a YouTube world in which cellphones double as cameras, news helicopters transmit close-up footage of unfolding police pursuits, and surveillance cameras capture arrests or shootings. Police officials are increasingly recording their officers. Compared to the cops who beat King, officers these days hit the streets with a new reality ingrained in their minds: Someone is always watching. “Early on in their training, I always tell them, ‘I

FDA Recalls 500 Medicines

FDA Recalls 500 Medicines - The FDA announced on Wednesday that it will remove unapproved prescription cough, cold and allergy medications from the market as part of its ongoing initiative to stop the sale of drugs that aren’t up to current standards. Over 500 prescription medications are involved in the atest round up, including Pseudo Cough Syrup, ColdMist Extended Relief tablets and Pediahist, a cold formula labeled for babies as young as one month old. You can find the complete list of products on the FDA’s website. Many doctors and health care providers unaware of the status of certain drugs have continued to prescribe them because the labels do not disclose that they lack FDA approval, according to the agency. “Removing these unapproved products from the market will reduce potential risks to consumers,” Deborah Autor, director of the Office of Compliance at the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said in a written statement. Such a widespread recall begs the qu

Jim Carrey Died

Jim Carrey Died - The fake celebrity death circuit has been quiet this year, but after a winter lull it’s back with a vengeance with a rumor doing the rounds that Jim Carrey has died in a snowboarding accident. One (rather dubious) news site wrote “Actor Jim Carrey is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today – March 3, 2011. The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Jim Carrey lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Jim Carrey was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death. “ We can say unequivocally though that the story is 100% fake. Jim Carrey has not died in a snowboarding accident.

Mazda Recall

Mazda Recall - Mazda is recalling about 52,000 Mazda6 sedans, because yellow sac spiders like to build their nests in part of the fuel system. "A certain type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line and this may cause a restriction of the line," Mazda said in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The evaporative canister vent line runs from a charcoal-filled canister that cleans air coming out of the gas tank. Blockage of the line can prevent air from getting into the gas tank as the gasoline is used, resulting in negative air pressure inside the tank. That can lead to a crack in the gas tank and the possibility of a fire. There have been 20 reported cases of spider infestation in the Mazda6 -- all have been in cars with 4-cylinder engines, none with V6's. No actual fires are known to have been caused by the spiders, according to Mazda's letter. Mazda Recall

Charlie Sheen Twitter

Charlie Sheen Twitter - Charlie Sheen may or may not be "winning," in life, but he has won a rare honor: the "Fastest Time to Reach 1 Million Followers" Guinness World Record. Guinness community manager Dan Barrett says the agency "just researched and approved" the record this morning. According to Barrett, Sheen reached that milestone in 25 hours and 17 minutes. As of this writing, Sheen's Twitter account, @CharlieSheen, has more than 1.3 million followers. Guinness did not have a previous record for that category, Barrett says. Sheen also set a Guinness record for "Highest Paid TV Actor Per Episode -- Current" at $1.25 million. Sheen joined Twitter March 1. In a matter of minutes, Sheen acquired more than 60,000 followers and a Klout score of 57 -- without even tweeting. According to a report in Advertising Age, Sheen was able to get his account verified so quickly because Internet startup Ad.ly brokered his account with Twitter.

UFO Files Hundreds of Sightings

UFO Files Hundreds of Sightings - British officials on Thursday released about 8,500 pages of previously classified reports that document sightings of unidentified flying objects by the military and members of the public dating back to the 1950s. The 35 large files, available via the Internet, mainly cover the period from 1997 to 2005 and include photographs, drawings and descriptions of flying saucer sightings, as well as letters that the Ministry of Defense sent eyewitnesses in response to their accounts. Policemen, a soldier, a Royal Air Force officer and members of the public report sightings of objects including a "chewy mint shaped solid craft" and aerial objects resembling a "ring," a "jellyfish" and a "silver voile spin top." In one account a man said he believed he had been "abducted" by aliens in October 1998 after seeing an unidentified craft hover over his London home and finding that he had gained an hour of time in

Calif. Girl Arranged Marriage

Calif. Girl Arranged Marriage - A 13-year-old Southern California girl who ran away from home to escape an arranged marriage in Pakistan has been taken into protective custody by child welfare authorities, police said on Thursday. Jessie Marie Bender, who vanished from her home in the early morning hours of February 22, was found at a motel in a nearby community, where she had hidden with the help of an uncle, San Bernardino County Sheriff's spokeswoman Roxanne Walker said. She was physically unharmed. "She ran away because she didn't want to go to Pakistan. She was afraid," Walker told Reuters. The girl was taken into protective custody, along with her three siblings, after detectives corroborated her story, Walker said. The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office was reviewing the case for possible criminal charges against members of her family. Jessie was initially reported missing from her home in the desert community of Hesperia, about 7

Drove 3 Trillion Miles 2010

Drove 3 Trillion Miles 2010 - Americans logged more miles in their cars last year than in any year since 2007, bouncing back from a steep decline in driving spurred by the recession and the 2008 run-up in gasoline prices. Americans drove three trillion miles in 2010, the third-highest total on record and an increase of 0.7% from the previous year, the U.S. Transportation Department reported Wednesday. The data marked the second straight year of increased driving and confirmed a reversal from 2008, when gasoline peaked above $4 a gallon and driving plunged 3.6% after two decades of increases. The extra time behind the wheel was a further sign of a recovering economy. But the data also underscored the nation's continued reliance on oil, a growing concern as turmoil in the Middle East threatens to further drive up gasoline prices and slow, or even reverse, the economic recovery. U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu, speaking at a U.S. Senate Budget Committee hearing, said he wasn&#

17,000 USB Sticks Dry Cleaners

17,000 USB Sticks Dry Cleaners - TechRadar's favourite odd press release of the year so far has suggested that there has been a 400 per cent increase in the number of USB sticks being left behind in clothes to be dry cleaned. Credant Technologies has cut through the chaff of everday news and got to the wheat of what people really care about – USB stick loss – and the statistics are, frankly, jaw-dropping. More than 500 dry cleaners and laundrettes took part in the survey and, apparently, some 17,000 USB sticks were left in 2010, that's four times the number found in 2009. "The numbers of USB sticks forgotten in trousers and shirt pockets is staggering and is a direct result of growth in 'IT consumerisation,' as consumers today carry more and more mobile devices than ever before, such as smart phones, laptops, iPads, USB sticks and other portable devices," said Sean Glynn, vice president of marketing, Credant Technologies. "Inevitably, unsuspectin

Ahmadinejad Car Sold

Ahmadinejad Car Sold - A car owned by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has sold for $2.5 million dollars, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reports. The 1977 Peugeot 504 was used by Ahmadinejad as his personal car when he was Mayor of Tehran, prior to his election to the presidency in 2005. Images of the white sedan indicate that it has blue vinyl and cloth upholstery, a theft-proof removable-face stereo and at least 36,867 km on the odometer. In January, a website (http://www.ahmadinejad-car.com/) was established to take bids on the car under the guise of a charity auction, with the proceeds earmarked for low income housing. According to the semi-official Iranian Student’s News Agency (ISNA), over half of the visitors to the website were from America, but it was an anonymous Iranian company that placed the winning bid. Mississippi Mom Charged Son in Oven

Mississippi Mom Charged Son in Oven - A Mississippi mother has been arrested in the death of her 3-year-old son after authorities say they found the child’s burned body in an oven. Washington County Coroner Methel Johnson said Wednesday that police found Tristan Robinson’s body inside the electric oven at his mother’s apartment shortly after midnight. Johnson says the child had been burned, but an autopsy was ordered to determine if he died before or after being placed in the oven. Greenville Police Chief Freddie Cannon says 24-year-old Terrie A. Robinson has been charged with murder. The chief says she’ll be arraigned Thursday in Greenville, a city of about 35,000 residents in the Mississippi Delta. Mississippi Mom Charged Son in Oven

Woman Survives Ride on Van Hood

Woman Survives Ride on Van Hood - A California woman literally held on for her life, gripping the hood of her husband's car for 35 miles as he sped along a highway at speeds up to 100 mph. The woman tried to stop her husband Christopher Carroll, 36, from driving while he was allegedly in the middle of a drug binge, that included methamphetamines, late Friday night. In an effort to stop him from pulling out of the driveway of their Manteca, Calif., home, she jumped on the hood. As he backed up she was thrown and her foot became stuck on the vehicle's side mirror. "I was holding on literally by the tips of my fingers and basically my ankles," she told ABC affiliate KGO. "Now I know it was the stupidest thing in my life I've ever done, but I jumped on the hood of the van. He backed out quickly and when he did that it turned me and I got stuck," she said. The woman, whom ABC News has chosen not to identify because she is the victim of domestic abuse,

Mickey Rooney Testifies

Mickey Rooney Testifies - Three-and-a-half million Americans every year in this country are victims of elder abuse, and even big-name movie stars are not immune, as we learned Wednesday in Congress. Mickey Rooney, now 90-years-old, may have played his most important role ever by getting attention to the terrible times the oldest Americans suffer. "You can be in control of your life one minute, ladies and gentleman. And the next minute, just like that, you have absolutely – believe it or not – no control of your life. Sometimes this happens quickly, but other times it's very, very gradual. You might wonder when all this truly began. In my case, I was eventually and completely stripped of the ability to make even the most basic decisions. 'Where do we go, or what do we do?'" Elder abuse comes in three forms: physical; neglect, when they don't get the help, service and treatment they pay for at their homes; and financial, which is what Rooney talked about

Travis Barker Recovery

Travis Barker Recovery - Between his new solo album, Give the Drummer Some, and a Blink-182 reunion album, Travis Barker has a pretty busy year ahead of him. But, for a while, he wasn’t sure he’d ever play again. Barker was seriously injured in a 2008 small plane crash and the drummer recently told RollingStone.com that very few people knew how badly he was hurt. “For a while after my accident, I was just recovering,” he said. “No one really thought I would be able to play drums after all the surgeries and everything. That was always on my mind. Once I was in the studio, it was like, ‘I can walk now, I can play the drums still. I have to finish [the solo album].’” Barker’s recovery included 16 surgeries and he almost had one of his feet amputated. He also said his left hand was completely numb for a while. “It was sketchy, so I came a long way. And mentally I was a basket case,” he said. “It was a big amount of time to get off of 20 medications that they had me on, and then phys

Wisconsin Prank Calls

Wisconsin Prank Calls - On the heels of an embarrassing prank call made by Ian Murphy to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker two weeks ago, lawmakers from the state have introduced a bill that would make spoof calls illegal, thereby breaking the hearts of teenager girls and radio hosts across the state. State Sen. Mary Lazich and State Rep. Mark Honadel, both Republicans (as is Gov. Walker), drafted the bill, which would prohibit tricking a call recipient into believing that the person on the line is someone they are not. The legislation would make it illegal to defraud, cause harm or wrongfully obtain information, as well as use services to transmit inaccurate caller ID, a representative of Rep. Honadel told the Badger Herald. It would also prohibit individuals from masking their voices or providing fake phone numbers to the call recipient. A person who violates the bill could be subject to a fine of $1,000 to $10,000 for each prank call. Law enforcement officials and government a

Georgia Bill Birth Certificates

Georgia Bill Birth Certificates - A bill signed by 94 Georgia state House members would require all presidential and vice presidential candidates to present a birth certificate to the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office before they can be put on the statewide ballot. The Presidential Eligibility Assurance Act, House Bill 401, would demand of each candidate a long-form birth certificate, a sworn statement that the candidate has never been a citizen of another country and a confirmation that the candidate has lived in the U.S. for the previous 14 years. During the 2008 presidential elections, allegations were raised that then-candidate Barack Obama was not a U.S. citizen, which spurred him to release documentation from Hawaii confirming his birth in that state. Rep. Mark Hatfield, R-Waycross, the lead author on the bill, is skeptical of the documentation. The document is a certificate of live birth from the state of Hawaii, valid for use in court proceedings and is considered by

Tax Return Errors Responsibility

Tax Return Errors Responsibility - In the past, the IRS' Office of the Director of Practice lacked the resources to effectively pursue potential ethical violations by some tax professionals. But the landscape has changed with the creation of the Office of Professional Responsibility, which has significant additional staffing and funding to more aggressively pursue problem practitioners. As the oversight of licensed tax practitioners increases, we need to know what is expected of us to comply with the law and retain our ability to represent taxpayers before the IRS. Our focus was Circular 230, a U.S. Treasury Department regulation administered by the Office of Professional Responsibility. Although various versions of the Circular have been in effect for a while, the Circular was significantly revised and strengthened in July 2002. Circular 230 governs practice before the IRS by CPAs, attorneys, enrolled agents and enrolled actuaries. The Office of Professional Responsibilit

Male Depression Economy

Male Depression Economy - A new study says that being a 21st century man may cause male depression rates to go higher, as uneducated and undereducated men may be pushed out of the job market due to a shifting and unstable economy. Where will they go? Probably home and that may cause issues. The study says if they go home to play Mr. Mom, it may be a painful adjustment. "Western men, particularly those with low education levels, will face a difficult road in the 21st century," write the authors of an editorial in the March issue of The British Journal of Psychiatry. "It may be more difficult, on average, for men to adjust to a domestic role than for women to adjust to a work role." Researchers Boadie Dunlop and Tanja Mletzko, both of Emory University School of Medicine write that with the shift, 'men's failure to fulfill the role of breadwinner is associated with greater depression and marital stress and conflict' with their now more powerful b

FDA Denture Cream Zinc

FDA Denture Cream Zinc - The Food and Drug Administration suggested that manufacturers consider taking zinc out of denture cream, following reports of neurological problems that might be associated with zinc poisoning. Zinc is a mineral that is naturally present in some foods, available as a dietary supplement and added to certain products. Zinc has been added to denture cream to boost its adhesive properties. The FDA said in a Feb. 23 letter sent to denture-adhesive manufacturers that it's received "numerous reports of adverse events related to the use of denture creams" consistent with zinc toxicity. GlaxoSmithKline PLC announced last year that it was removing zinc from its Poligrip brand and other denture-adhesive products. At the time the company said it had "become aware of potential health problems associated with the long-term excessive use of our zinc-containing denture adhesive products." Symptoms of zinc toxicity include nerve damage or numbness

Teens Tanning Salons

Teens Tanning Salons - 17-year-old Grace Moore says she tans only for special occasions. "I think being a teenager I probably tan for prom and homecoming and before and after spring break." But tanning regulations are getting tougher. Now, Moore and other teens need a parent's permission to use the beds. The healthcare law added an extra ten cents to every "tanning dollar." "Being under 18 you are under your parents rules so I think they should be involved in making that decision." Jason Laube, the Owner of Cutting Edge Fitness in Clear Lake, says teens have to come in with a parent and sign a waiver. They also have to read something from the Iowa Department of Public Health. "Right now, we have no one under the age of 16 come in here." 17-year-olds may soon be added to that list after new reports from the American Academy of Pediatrics. They say nearly 9 thousand people died of melanoma last year, and about 70 thousand new melano

E. Coli Shopping Carts

E. Coli Shopping Carts - Parents may want to think twice before dropping their toddlers into the front of a shopping cart, according to a new study. University of Arizona researchers, as reported by MSNBC.com , swabbed shopping cart handles in four states. What they found was that of 85 carts examined, 72 percent had a marker for fecal bacteria. A closer look at samples from 46 carts showed E. coli on half of them. "That's more than you find in a supermarket's restroom," lead researcher Charles Gerba, a professor of microbiology, told MSNBC. He said that's because while disinfecting cleaners are used in restrooms nobody routinely disinfects shopping carts. AOL Health cautioned that while most strains of E. coli are harmless, others can cause illness and some can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness and pneumonia among other illnesses. Gerba discovered in a previous study that children who ride in shopping carts are more likely t

Keith Richards' Daughter Arrested

Keith Richards' Daughter Arrested - Theodora Richards, the daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, was arrested Tuesday night in Manhattan after police observed her allegedly scrawling on the wall of a SoHo convent — and later discovered she was carrying illegal drugs, authorities said. Richards, 25, who also models and is an art student, was seen writing the message “T Heart A” with a red acrylic paint marker on a white plaster wall of a building containing St. Anthony’s Convent on Prince Street, a law enforcement official said. When the approached by plain clothes Anti-Crime Unit officers, Richards allegedly told them the initials stood for Theodora and Alexandra, her younger sister, the official said. The officers searched Richards and found white pills police believe to be hydrocodine and a small amount of marijuana. According to the official, Richards said she bought the pills from a dealer thinking it was Xanax. The official said Richards told the office

California Woman Banana Peel

California Woman Banana Peel - A banana peel, the torment of many a cartoon character, has allegedly become the real-life downfall of a woman in California. Ida Valentine, 58, is suing the 99 Cents Only store where she slipped on one last April. She said that she suffered a herniated disk and tissue damage, spent $9,000 on medical bills and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. "She fell and landed on her backside," said Courtney Mikolaj of the Quirk Law Firm in Ventura, California, which is representing her. Mikolaj said the 99 Cents Only store in Fontana, California, refused a proposed settlement of $44,000. Executives from the company, a deep-discount retailer with hundreds of stores in western states, were not immediately available for comment. The image in popular culture of an unwary pedestrian tripping head over heels on a banana peel stems from the late 19th century, when bananas were a popular street food in American cities and the press portrayed t

Secrets of Hypermiling

Secrets of Hypermiling - Although some hypermilers may go to some extremes to get fantastic mileage, most just practice some simple driving techniques that everyone can use. I guess the biggest tip to making a dent in your fuel consumption is to slow down. Studies have shown that driving a steady 55 mph on the highway leads to better gas mileage. But if you are like me, you want to make sure that you are doing at least the speed limit whenever you can. So if the speed limit is 65 mph the chances are pretty good that that is the speed I am going to be traveling at. You can also use the momentum of the road to help you increase your gas mileage. That means coasting whenever possible. If you live in a hilly area like I do, then you can just take your foot off of the gas when you are going downhill. It's also a good idea to take your food off of the gas pedal and coast to the stop sign or traffic light. Accelerate before you get to a hill if possible instead of waiting until you

How to Invest in ETFs

How to Invest in ETFs - The question of how to invest in ETFs is being asked by many people. These days, more and more people are looking towards atypical ways of making their money work for them. This does not necessarily mean they are looking for odd or obtuse ways of investing their money as much as they are seeking strategies that are not typical ones. One such way people wish to put their money to use for them would be through ETF trading since this can prove to be a viable way to earn solid returns and profits. Of course, this does raise questions regarding what would be the best way to go about trading such items. Some may be curious as to what ETFs are. ETF refers to exchange traded funds. This means they are funds that contain a great variety of stocks. The sheer volume of the stocks could range upwards of a hundred or more. Since you are diversifying through the stocks, you can survive if any number of the stocks does poorly as long as there are other stocks that can hedge
