Lindsay Lohan to Feature on Ellen

Lindsay Lohan to Feature on Ellen - Despite reports, Lindsay Lohan won't be appearing on the U.K. version of "Celebrity Big Brother." But she will grace America's TV screens on Dec. 15 when she pays a visit to "The Ellen Degeneres Show." It's been a few years since Lohan has appeared on the daytime talk show. The troubled actress has been keeping a low profile when it comes to television due to her recent legal troubles that range from court dates and probation to a brief jail stint. Lohan will soon show off a little bit more of herself in a new Playboy spread, which hits newsstands next month. "The pictorial is absolutely fantastic and very tasteful, and will be accompanied by an interview that will let readers see another side of Lindsay," Lohan's rep told E! News. Sinkholes Open Up in Oklahoma

Sinkholes Open Up in Oklahoma - A large sinkhole has opened up near Sayre, Okla., and people in the region are wondering if it's related to a string of small earthquakes shaking the region. The hole opened up a couple of days after one of the earthquakes about two weeks ago, the property caretaker told NBC station KFOR. "Kind of spooky. You don't want to mess with it today," Jack Damron told KFOR. "Glad my house wasn't over it," neighbor Tony Bills told the station. KFOR reported that geologists are dubious of a connection between the quakes and the sinkhole. Scientists at the Oklahoma Geological Survey said the sinkhole could have been caused by drought conditions, the dissolving of salt or rock formations, or draining of an old coal mine. Also, Sayre is across the state from the area where the quakes have been centered. That area, about 40 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, was struck on Nov. 5 by a magnitude 5.6 quake, the strongest ever recorde

Hillary Clinton Visits Myanmar

Hillary Clinton Visits Myanmar - "I am obviously looking to determine for myself and on behalf of our government what is the intention of the current government with respect to continuing reforms both political and economic," Clinton told reporters before her arrival here. Activists and citizens of Burma, also known as Myanmar, welcomed the visit but cautioned that Burma's military-backed, nominally civilian government is unlikely to allow full democracy to develop. "It's hard to understand the Myanmar government; they do not speak what is in their hearts," warned U Htaung Ko Thang, a leader of the Chin ethnic group, who was elected a member of parliament in the 1990 elections, whose results the ruling junta annulled. "Unless we establish a democratic government, there is no opportunity for the Burmese people." Burma's parliament approved a law guaranteeing the right to protest, which had not previously existed, and had opened up some polit

iPhone Explodes Mid Flight

iPhone Explodes Mid Flight - Apple’s iPhones are always among the hottest gadgets of any holiday shopping season, but for one passenger on an Australian flight, the phone was too hot to handle — literally. While on Australian flight Regional Express ZL319 Friday, a passenger’s iPhone 4 (not the iPhone 4S, which is Apple’s latest model) suddenly started “emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow,” according to a Regional Express statement. The plane, which was flying from Lismore to Sydney, was in the midst of landing when the incident occured. “In accordance with company standard safety procedures, the flight attendant carried out recovery actions immediately, and the red glow was extinguished successfully,” according to Regional Express’ statement. After landing, the iPhone was handed over to officials at the Australian Transport Safety Bureau. There’s no official word yet on what caused the phone to combust. Ringling Circus Pays Record Fine

Ringling Circus Pays Record Fine - Feld Entertainment Inc., of Vienna, Virginia, did not admit wrongdoing or violating U.S. Department of Agriculture regulations in settling the dispute over handling of performing animals, it said in a Monday statement. "We look forward to working with the USDA in a cooperative and transparent manner that meets our shared goal of ensuring that our animals are healthy and receive the highest quality care," Kenneth Feld, chief executive of Feld Entertainment, said in the statement. The USDA said the $270,000 fine was the biggest assessed under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). Feld also agreed to set up a compliance officer's position on its staff by the end of February 2012. Employees who work with animals also must undergo AWA compliance training, the USDA said in a statement. In one episode logged by USDA inspectors, Banko, a 35-year-old female Asian elephant, was required to perform in July in Los Angeles despite pain from probable san

Third Woman Speaks Out Against Herman Cain

Third Woman Speaks Out Against Herman Cain - She alleges she received unwanted comments from Mr Cain during his tenure as head of a restaurant lobby group. She told the Associated Press Mr Cain had commented on her attractiveness and invited her to his corporate apartment. The unnamed woman is the third former employee to make such allegations in recent days. The Cain campaign blamed the leak on an aide to Republican rival Rick Perry, who worked alongside Mr Cain on a failed Senate bid in 2004 and was said to have learned about the allegation. Rick Perry's campaign denounced that allegation as "reckless and false". Mr Cain's aides have been fighting sexual harassment claims since Politico reported on Sunday that at least two other women had complained of inappropriate behaviour from Mr Cain while he was head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. A Cain spokesman, JD Gordon, told reporters on Wednesday: "Mr Cain has said over the past two day

$2 Million Christmas Tree in Tokyo

$2 Million Christmas Tree in Tokyo - A jewelry store in Tokyo's posh Ginza district teamed up with flower arrangement artist Shogo Kariyazaki to create the lavish Golden Christmas Tree. Twelve kg (26 lb) of gold were used to make the 2.4 metre (8 foot) tree, which is adorned with ribbons, hearts and orchids, also made of gold. The value of the gold is about $700,000 but the total value of the tree is much higher because of labour costs, said Naoto Mizuki, marketing general manager at the store. "Considering the time it took to make, the designer and hard work put into it, we can assume that the cost of this tree would be approximately 150 million yen ($2 million)," he said. The gleaming display caught the eyes of passersby. "When you're looking at the tree, it really jumps out at you," said window-shopping housewife Kisoko Sakabe. The tree is not for sale. It will be on display at the store through to Christmas Day. $2 Million Christmas Tree in Tokyo

Prince William Joins Irish Rescue

Prince William Joins Irish Rescue - The second in line to the British throne, who is a Royal Air Force helicopter and known professionally as Flight Lt. William Wales, was aboard an aircraft which rescued two crewmembers early on Sunday, after their vessel suffered a cracked hull in gale force winds off the coast of north Wales. Britain's ministry of defense said William had been co-pilot of the helicopter, which carried two people back to his base RAF Valley, on the Welsh island of Anglesey. Authorities said five people remain missing after the Swanland cargo ship, which had eight people on board and was carrying thousands of tons of limestone, sent a mayday call. Holyhead Coastguard said one body had been recovered from the sea, but that the fate of the other crewmembers was not yet known. "We know that at least some of them are wearing immersion suits and have strobe lighting with them, however sea conditions are challenging at best," said Jim Green, a coastguard

Plane Crash in Chicago Crystal Lake

Plane Crash in Chicago Crystal Lake - Four people from out of state were killed this morning when a plane crashed near northwest suburban Crystal Lake. The single-engine aircraft crashed about 10:30 a.m. in a farm field near U.S. Hwy. 14 and North Ridgefield Road in unincorporated McHenry County, officials said. There was no information available about where the plane took off or where it was headed, said FAA officials, who also said the plane was operating on "visual flight rules" and was not in touch with air traffic control. The victims are two men and two women who all appear to be age 18 or older, according to McHenry County Deputy Coroner Curt Bradshaw. “They have not been positively identified,’’ Bradshaw said Saturday evening. “We only have presumptive identities.’’ Bradshaw said the victims are not from Illinois and authorities are trying to reach their family members, who are also out of state. They were all pronounced dead on the scene and autopsies are sche

Hidden Costs of Divorce

Hidden Costs of Divorce - Child support, mortgage payments and attorney fees are the bulk of expenses in a divorce. To keep costs down many people opt for the pro se route — the Do-It-Yourself divorce solution — and represent themselves. Since the other expenses are typically fixed, and an attorney’s final invoice billed at hundreds of dollars an hour is a variable amount, the DIY route is an attractive solution for budget-conscious parents. However, the price tag of a DIY divorce isn’t calculated during the divorce process. Down the line parents usually discover they had a right to certain property, funds or child custody. Visiting court and filing motions to modify comes with their own expenses. If someone has their heart set on the DIY divorce route they should still consult an attorney. An initial consult with an attorney will cost a couple hundred dollars, but the information about divorce laws and state laws could pay for itself tenfold. "With consults, fathers can get

My hand went straight up, I said, 'I'm in.' I knew Joanna would want to go. It will be our first trip since we got married." "I come from a military family ... and no matter what your views are, these men and women are out there risking everything for us. I realize how fortunate I have been, so I like to give back at every opportunity I can," he added.

How to Maximize Social Security Benefits

How to Maximize Social Security Benefits - In 1935, the U.S. established Social Security, motivated by the Great Depression. Approximately, two-thirds of U.S. retirees count on the mandated supplemental retirement program for most of their retirement income, which sustains them for the remainder of their lives and keeps them out of poverty. The government funds this mandated program through payroll taxes, collecting a percentage of paychecks automatically for the Social Security fund. This provides benefits to retirees and current Social Security recipients. You can apply for as much as 50 percent of your spouse's social security benefit payout if your spouse's benefit is higher than yours. You can gain from this provision when one spouse never worked outside the home or when one spouse has lower earnings than the other. The lower-earning spouse can receive 50 percent of the spouse's benefit when the spouse reaches full retirement age. How to Maximize Social Security B

Billy Bob Daughter

Billy Bob Daughter - The estranged daughter of actor Billy Bob Thornton has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 2008 death of a child in her care. Amanda Brumfield, 32, was convicted of manslaughter earlier this year. Authorities say Brumfield killed her best friend's daughter during an overnight stay in October 2008. Brumfield says 1-year-old Olivia Madison Garcia was trying to climb out of a playpen and hit her head. The defense suggested the fall may have aggravated a previous injury, causing her death. Prosecutors say it's impossible that a fall from that height caused a three-and-a-half inch (9-centimeter) fracture on the back of the girl's skull and the bleeding and swelling found in her brain. Brumfield's father, Billy Bob Thornton, is best known for the movie "Slingblade" and his marriage to Angelina Jolie. Is Anywhere Safe to Invest your Money?

Is Anywhere Safe to Invest your Money? - When it comes to investing, you can go two ways. You can look for the highest returns, but in order to get those high returns you need to take a higher amount of risk. Or you can choose safe investments to keep your principal protected. While these safer investments might not earn as much, there is no risk that the money will evaporate the next time the stock market enters a bear market phase. A money market account works much the same as a savings account, but the interest rate tends to be higher. The minimum balance requirement might be higher too, so make sure you have enough liquid cash to open the account. A money market account is a good place to stash your emergency fund, and as you add more money to the account, the amount of interest you earn goes up as well. Be sure to shop around for the best rate, since the interest rates on money market accounts can vary quite widely. Treasury securities provide absolute safety and security for i

Cell Phone Scams

Cell Phone Scams - Scams that come to you on your mobile can be difficult to recognise. They might come from somebody who talks as if they know you; they might come through a 'missed call' from an unknown number that you redial; or they might be upfront about what they are promoting, but have hidden charges. You might be offered free or cheap ring tones, or the chance to win fantastic prizes. When you reply to these messages or calls, you may find yourself disappointed in the product or signed up to a service you don't want or cannot stop. You could be left facing a huge phone bill. If you receive a missed call or text message from an unknown number, the best thing to do is to delete the message or ignore the call. Always do your homework before you agree to any offer you receive over your mobile and never agree to any offer that you are not completely sure about. Cell Phone Scams

Behavioral Investing Definition

Behavioral Investing Definition - Behavioral economics and its related area of study, behavioral finance, use social, cognitive and emotional factors in understanding the economic decisions of individuals and institutions performing economic functions, including consumers, borrowers and investors, and their effects on market prices, returns and the resource allocation. The fields are primarily concerned with the bounds of rationality of economic agents. Behavioral models typically integrate insights from psychology with neo-classical economic theory. Behavioral analysts are not only concerned with the effects of market decisions but also with public choice, which describes another source of economic decisions with related biases towards promoting self-interest. During the classical period, microeconomics was closely linked to psychology. For example, Adam Smith wrote The Theory of Moral Sentiments, which proposed psychological explanations of individual behavior and Jeremy Bentham

Anthony Bourdain Paula Deen

Anthony Bourdain Paula Deen - Deen, searing back after “No Reservations” star Bourdain gave her and fellow Food Network chefs Rachael Ray, Guy Fieri and Sandra Lee a roasting, exclusively told Page Six: “Anthony Bourdain needs to get a life. You don’t have to like my food, or Rachael’s, Sandra’s and Guy’s. But it’s another thing to attack our character. I wake up every morning happy for where I am in life. It’s not all about the cooking, but the fact that I can contribute by using my influence to help people all over the country. In the last two years, my partners and I have fed more than 10 million hungry people by bringing meat to food banks.” Basting Bourdain for his apparent lack of charity and his attitude, she said, “My good friends Rachael, Guy and Sandra are the most generous charitable folks I know. They give so much of their time and money to help the food-deprived, sick children and abandoned animals. I have no idea what Anthony has done to contribute besides being irri

Secondhand Smoke ADHD

Secondhand Smoke ADHD - Kids who grow up among smokers are more likely than kids in smoke-free homes to suffer from a number of neurobehavioral disorders, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities and conduct disorders. That's the finding from a new study published online this week in the medical journal Pediatrics. Researchers from the Tobacco Free Research Institute in Dublin, Ireland, and from the Harvard School of Public Health reviewed data on more than 55,000 U.S. children under the age of 12. (The kids' parents were interviewed as part of the 2007 National Survey on Children's Health.) Of all the kids who grew up in smoke-free homes, 8.6% of them — or about one in 12 — had been diagnosed with at least one neurobehavioral condition. But among kids who lived with a smoker, more than twice as many — 20.4%, or one in five — had been diagnosed. The study authors warn that that their findings so far are "associational and

Noise Pennsylvania Restaurant Ban Kids

Noise Pennsylvania Restaurant Ban Kids - We all know the phrase "no shirt, no shoes, no service" but one restaurant in Pennsylvania is adding something else to the list -- no kids. That's the new policy at McDain's restaurant and golf center in Monroeville. The local eatery has been serving customers lunch and dinner for years. But starting next weekend children under the age of six will no longer be welcomed. The restaurant doesn't want those younger and sometimes noisier guests to ruin the dining experience for others. "Nothing wrong with babies, but the fact is you can't control their volume. And there may be restaurants that prefer to cater to such things, not here," said restaurant owner Mike Vuick. "I think it's the height of being impolite and selfish." Noise Pennsylvania Restaurant Ban Kids

Dog Found 2,800 Miles Away

Dog Found 2,800 Miles Away - Pollux, a black lab-mix that vanished from its Montreal family's yard a year ago has turned up 2,800 miles away in Kamloops, British Columbia, officials say. The 9-year-old dog is to be flown back to the Isabelle Robitaille family Thursday, thanks to donations to the SPCA, The (Vancouver) Province reported Wednesday. "We're like, 'Oh, my God. Are you kidding me?'" Robitaille told Kamloops This Week when asked about her reaction to the news Pollux had been found in good health. "Everybody here is so excited. She's going to eat a great big T-bone." Pollux had disappeared June 20, 2010. The Robitailles thought their dog was gone forever after they put up posters and hunted throughout the neighborhood but saw no sign of the animal. Sarah Gerow, acting manager of Kamloops SPCA, said a family in Wallachin, British Columbia, about 40 miles from Kamloops, came across Pollux drinking from a river and turned the dog in

3D Chocolate Printer

3D Chocolate Printer - The world's first 3D chocolate printer was just unveiled in the U.K., led by the University of Exeter in collaboration with the University of Brunel and software developer Delcam. Typically, 3D printers create objects by gradually stacking layers of material into a desired shape, and that's how the chocolate version operates. Also known as additive manufacturing, the process has mostly been used for plastic and metal production, which isn't quite as tasty. The printer lets you create your own designs on a computer and reproduce them physically in 3D chocolate. Just imagine the next time you want to say, "I'm sorry." You could do it in the form of a dark chocolate version of your face, with your apology in a speech bubble. Creating the delectable chocolate printer poised several challenges (aside from a lot of missing samples). "Chocolate is not an easy material to work with because it requires accurate heating and cooling cyc

Redmond was then airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, where he was in critical condition in the intensive care unit. Redmond was unconscious during the rescue and had not regained consciousness, said Jack Shea, director of Teton Science Schools in Jackson, where Redmond was a volunteer through the AmeriCorps program. 800-Foot Fall Skier

Robert Pattinson Haircut

Robert Pattinson Haircut - Robert Pattinson has got himself a crazy makeover that may send his fans scream and cry. The Edward Cullen of the "Twilight Saga" series was snapped rocking a patchy haircut in the wee hours of Thursday, July 7. A photo shows that his messy and long hair is being left long on one side and raggedly buzzed on another. The 25-year-old actor debuted the punk rocker-feel do when leaving the set of current film project, "Cosmopolis", in Toronto, Canada. Donning a pair of jeans and a black printed T-shirt, he stopped for over ten minutes to sign autographs and take pictures with a group of fans. The actor, who has chopped his hair short for "Water for Elephants", got this wild cut for "Cosmopolis", the big screen adaptation from Don Delillo's acclaimed novel. In a scene from the book, his character Eric Parker flees the barber's shop in the middle of a haircut. A drama thriller from director David Cronenberg, &q

Cameron Diaz Gambit

Cameron Diaz Gambit - Filming for the Coen Brothers' latest film truly got off to a flying start as its two stars shot scenes at Heathrow Airport. Passengers tried to get a good view at Terminal 5 as Diaz strutted around in a pair of tiny shorts alongside her co-star Firth as they filmed the remake of 1960s crime caper Gambit. Diaz dons the shorts in the role of a rodeo cowgirl who becomes involved in the scheme because she is the splitting image of the wealthy man's wife. The part was played by Shirley Maclaine in the original, minus the Daisy Dukes. Firth looked very much like Michael Caine did in the role wearing dark rimmed glasses and a sharp grey suit. Luckily for Firth, he has the same acting chops as Caine, too. Firth has described the journey to finally getting the film made as a 'tortuous process' - he has been on board the project for four years. Diaz was last seen in superhero action flick Green Hornet, and will be next seen in adult comedy B

Judgment Day May 21

Judgment Day May 21 - By now you've seen the billboards all over the county (all over the nation, in fact), including a couple along Highway 94 in Lemon Grove and Spring Valley. Maybe you've passed them and not given them a second thought. Maybe they've made you stop and re-evaluate things. But the message on the billboards is all too clear: The world is going to end on Saturday, May 21. (So much for that family trip to Disney World this summer.) The Doomsday warning is being spewed by 89-year-old Harold Camping, who founded Christian group Family Radio and who has predicted—through careful study of the Bible—that May 21 is indeed Judgment Day. In an interview with New York Magazine last week, Camping said, “God has given sooo much information in the Bible about this, and so many proofs, and so many signs, that we know it is absolutely going to happen without any question at all.” Camping has incorrectly predicted the “end of days” before, for September 1994, bu

Gas Saving Driving Tips For Everyone

Gas Saving Driving Tips For Everyone - Slow down Each 5 miles per hour your drive over 60 mph is like paying an extra 24 cents per gallon for gas, when gasoline is selling at $3.96 per gallon, according to the government's fueleconomy.gov. "Think about sticking your hand out the window at 30 mph and sticking your hand out the window at 70 mph," said Ted Bohn, a research scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory in Lamont, Ill., and an adjunct engineering instructor at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. "There's a lot more force on your hand. That's the same force that your wheels have to push the car forward, and it goes up exponentially" at higher speeds. Slowing down a bit also can keep an engine running at its most efficient level. Pushing it harder costs more. "The engine is working harder to maintain that faster speed so it's going to use more fuel to do that," said Mark Griffin, service adviser at Hands-On Garage in Mil

Coffee Lowers Prostate Cancer Risk

Coffee Lowers Prostate Cancer Risk - For a long time scientists have wondered whether coffee might lower the risk of prostate cancer. Previous studies have been relatively small and have shown mixed results. But now we've got results from a Harvard study that followed almost 50,000 male health professionals for more than two decades. A lot of them drank a lot of coffee, which seems to have helped. More than 5,000 of them got prostate cancer 642 of them the most lethal form. "For the men who drank the most coffee their risk of getting this bad form of prostate cancer was about 60 percent lower compared to the men who drank almost no coffee at all," says Lorelei Mucci, an epidemiologist at the Harvard School of Public Health and an author of the study. When they saw the results, Mucci says she and her colleagues said, "Wow, that's a lot!" "Among risk factors that people have studied for lethal prostate cancer, this is one of the strongest,"

The Rapture May 21

The Rapture May 21 - One evangelist's doomsday prediction has the world ending on Saturday, May 21. His followers and his radio network are running hundreds of billboards across the country, extolling that the apocalypse is nigh. If it doesn't happen, though, there's an Oakland-based atheist's group ready to help disappointed/unfulfilled believers with a party on Sunday. They've also raised their own counter-billboards to point at what they see as "nonsense." The American Atheists' 68-foot billboard near the Bay Bridge in San Francisco reads: The Rapture: You Know It's Nonsense: 2000 Years of "Any Day Now!" Similar signs are in Houston, Wichita, Kan., and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The party goes down May 21-22 -- dates chosen specifically to highlight the "insanity" of this event, according to Larry Hicock, California Director of American Atheists. There's also societal danger involved when people sell their belongings

Pete Townshend Memoir

Pete Townshend Memoir - In a statement released Tuesday, Townshend called the book an "essential rite of passage," adding, "I am lucky to be alive and to have such a crazy story to tell, full of wild adventures and creative machinations. I am happy that I am able to write my book myself, in my own 'voice' that many readers will be hearing for the first time." The book will be edited by Harper Collins executive editor David Hirshey. Townshend's book agent is Ed Victor, who also repped Keith Richards' 2010 bestselling memoir "Life." Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Rock memoirs have been a hot category for publishers of late with both Sammy Hagar and Steven Tyler's tomes reaching the bestseller lists. Rolling Stone reported that Townshend began work on the autobiography in the late 1990s and that he had posted a small segment online in 2008. In 2003, when rumors circulated that Townshend was involved in a police investigation

Rabid Fox Bites Golfer

Rabid Fox Bites Golfer - Dennis Kincaid was chipping onto the green at hole 17 of the Granada Farms Country Club Golf Course on River Drive May 11 when it happened. "I had my head down," the 76-year-old Hickory man said. "[The fox] clamped down on my leg and wouldn't turn loose...I couldn’t throw it off and I couldn’t knock it off and I hollered for help." His golfing buddies came running, swinging golf clubs at the fox - and his leg - over and over. "One of the guys finally hit him in the back of the head and killed him. I’d say it wrestled with him for probably two minutes," Kincaid marveled. He and his friends had the presence of mind to bring the dead animal with them to urgent care. Animal control sent the carcass off to Raleigh for testing immediately, and got word back Friday that the animal was, in fact, rabid. The fox is the third confirmed report of rabies in Caldwell County this year. "If you see abnormal behavior out of wild

Amanda Knox Trial

Amanda Knox Trial - Amanda Knox, the US student convicted of murdering her British housemate in Italy, faces a fresh trial, charged with slandering police officers. The claims stem from the inquiries into the death of Meredith Kercher in 2007. At her murder trial, Knox, 23, claimed police hit her on the head during her interrogation. The police denied this. Knox, who is currently appealing against her murder conviction, told an earlier hearing she never intended slander and was just defending herself. If the American - who was due to appear in court on Tuesday - is found guilty, any additional jail term would be added to her existing 26-year sentence. Raffaele Sollecito, Knox's former boyfriend, is also appealing against his conviction for Miss Kercher's murder. Both Sollecito and Knox are awaiting the outcome of an independent examination of the forensic evidence in the case, which they say will prove their innocence. Knox's parents are also due to stand tri

Jill Scott Loses 50 Pounds

Jill Scott Loses 50 Pounds - According to Ebony Magazine, singer Jill Scott has lost more than 50 pounds and is at her smallest size in over 20 years. Scott will be featured in the magazine's June issue and told Ebony she lost the weight by eating healthier and doing "playful" workouts with her trainer and her family. "Anything that makes me feel like I'm not working out," the single mom of one says. "We go outside and throw footballs, go for walks." The neo-soul artist seems to be happy and motivated in anticipation of the release of her first album in four years, "The Light of the Sun." The album is expected to be released June 28. Danielle Staub Real Housewives

Danielle Staub Real Housewives - Danielle Staub, the former “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star, is returning to her roots. The former stripper, who demonstrated her chops on the show last season, has signed a deal with New York gentleman’s club Scores to make one live appearance at the club and appear on its website occasionally, according to TMZ. The website even posted photos of a topless Staub shimmying (rather grimly, I might add), apparently for the Scores website. (A step up from Shakers in Carlstadt, where Staub was a favorite back in the day? You tell me.) Staub left "Real Housewives of New Jersey" at the end of the second season, saying she was "too good' for it, although the show had painted itself into a corner, dramatically speaking, with her relationship with the other three housewives about seven restraining orders past salvagable. She was replaced by Melissa Gorga, who is married to Teresa Giudice's brother Joe, and the newcomers quickly amp

Dougie Rapper Killed

Dougie Rapper Killed - Preliminary police reports show that M-Bone, whose real name is Mante Ray Talbert, was sitting inside his car parked outside a liquor store in Los Angeles when another car pulled in near his and started shooting around 10:30 p.m. "Another car pulled alongside, gunshots were fired, and the victim was struck twice in the head," Lieutenant James Madia said, according to the Associated Press. The police official added that the man in M-Bone’s passenger seat not injured. Talbert was rushed to the nearby hospital but was declared dead upon arrival. Motives for the killing have remained unclear and the LA police vowed to look into all possibilities. Different motives for shooting have emerged in social networking sites and the authorities said they are investigating validity of various claims. Dougie Rapper Killed

Situation Sues Dad

Situation Sues Dad - The Situation's lawyers have sent an email to the elder Sorrentino warning him of a lawsuit and an emergency injunction to shut down the website broadcasting the videos, according to TMZ sources Tuesday. A rep for Frank Sorrentino said that the website would not be taken down and claimed they were not threatened by the email from The Situation's rep -- especially since the correspondence allegedly referred to a "lawsuit." Frank Sorrentino, divorced from The Situation's mother, posted the videos last week after the star of the hit MTV show allegedly ignored his request to help pay for medical insurance. "I've been a diabetic for 25 years and my insurance was running out and I called up my son and said, 'Listen, Mikey, I'm between jobs right now, can you help me out? I don't want to lose my health coverage'," he said in one video. "What I expected was a call back saying, 'Dad, are you OK?' I didn&

Blood Test Shows How Long You Live

Blood Test Shows How Long You Live - The controversial test measures vital structures on the tips of a person's chromosomes, called telomeres, which scientists believe are one of the most important and accurate indicators of the speed at which a person is ageing. Scientists behind the €500 (£435) test said it will be possible to tell whether a person's "biological age", as measured by the length of their telomeres, is older or younger than their actual chronological age. Medical researchers believe that telomere testing will become widespread within the next five or 10 years, but there are already some scientists who question its value and whether there should be stronger ethical controls over its wider use. In addition to concerns about how people will react to a test for how "old" they really are, some scientists are worried that telomere testing may be hijacked by unscrupulous organisations trying to peddle unproven anti-ageing remedies and other fak

Worst Speeding Ticket Excuses

Worst Speeding Ticket Excuses - These extravagant excuses include alien hypnosis, low-flying aircraft, a dying hamster and bouts of diarrhoea. Here is the top 10: 1) I had passed out after seeing flashing lights, which I believed to be UFOs in the distance. The flash of the camera brought me round from my trance. 2) I was in the airport's flight path and I believe the camera was triggered by a jet overhead, not my car. 3) I had a severe bout of diarrhoea and had to speed to a public toilet. 4) There was a strong wind behind my car, which pushed me over the limit. 5) My friend had just chopped his fingers off and I was rushing the fingers to hospital. 6) The vibrations from the surfboard I had on the roof rack set off the camera. 7) I had to rush my dying hamster to the vets. 8) A violent sneeze caused a chain reaction where my foot pushed down harder on the accelerator. 9) There was a suspected case of foot and mouth and I had to rush to see the cow concerned.

Highest Speed Limits

Highest Speed Limits - Texas gained the title of highest speed limit being set at 85mph in places when the bill takes effect. Before the bill was passed by the Texas House they still had the highest speed limit with some roads being 80mph. In Maine for Interstate 95 which leads from Old Towne to Houlton a bill has been purposed to raise the speed limit to 75 since reports of drivers already going that speed is in the masses. Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas has also recently signed a legislature raising the speed limit to 75 miles as well recieving information of people going that speed anyway. Many are happy at the rise in speed but still some are weary of the safety issues. Highest Speed Limits

Tylenol Blood Cancer

Tylenol Blood Cancer - It's one of the most frequently used medications worldwide, and if you use it, you could be putting your health at risk. The concern is that chronic acetaminophen use -- best known as Tylenol -- may be linked to blood cancer. A new report in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found that those who used acetaminophen at least four days a week over four years had two times the risk of blood cancer. The risk was not seen with the heavy use of other painkillers such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Scientists say, even though the risk is relatively small, more studies should be done to prove if there is a cause and effect. Tylenol Blood Cancer

Brown v Board of Education Anniversary

Brown v Board of Education Anniversary - Some members of the Cal Poly faculty will take time to honor the 57th anniversary of a monumental date in American history Tuesday. In 1954, the Supreme Court ruled in Brown v. Board of Education that it was unconstitutional to racially segregate public schools. Universities around the country are observing the important anniversary, including Cal Poly. Nation-wide, faculty are holding "watching parties" where they will watch a live web-cast of the Washington DC launch event of the "Campaign for the Future of Higher Education". In all, 30 universities will watch. The goal of the initiative is to fight back against inequalities public higher education. Faculty presidents from various universities will lead the web-cast, including Lillian Taiz, President of the California Faculty Association, California State University. Buddha Day May 17 2011

Buddha Day May 17 2011 - Sri Lanka has made all arrangements to commemorate on a very grand scale the 2600th Anniversary of the Sri Sambuddhatwa Jayanthiya, which denotes the attainment of Buddhahood by Prince Siddhartha 2600 years ago, which falls tomorrow on the Wesak Fullmoon Day. Wesak Full Moon day, being the beginning of the 5th month of the Buddhist Calendar, is a very significant day for Buddhists since it coincides with the Birth of Prince Siddhartha, his attainment of Buddhahood and the death all falling on the same day. The Sri Lanka government has declared the year beginning with tomorrow as the Sri Sambuddhatwa Jayanthi Year. This declaration was made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a special ceremony held at the Sri Mahabodiya last Saturday. Sri Mahabodhiya, at the sapling of the Bo-Tree, under which Lord Buddha attained Buddhahood. This sapling was brought to Sri Lanka by the Buddhist monk Sangamitta Samanera, the daughter of King Asoka as a special gift for the B

Oregon Man Diary Froze

Oregon Man Diary Froze - It was a Valentine's Day that went unmarked on his otherwise-detailed log, a reused calendar from the 1970s in which he had crossed out bygone dates and filled in the current year. McDonald noted that he drove his blue 1997 GMC truck into the remote foothills of the Cascade Range on Feb. 7 and made camp, then woke up one day to find himself in the middle of a fast and heavy snowstorm. If McDonald had been awake, said Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller, he might have been able to see the flakes piling up, made plans to get out, deal with it. McDonald's body was discovered Thursday by a U.S. Forest Service survey crew, about 60 miles east of the state capital of Salem. An autopsy conducted Friday showed he died of hypothermia and starvation, Mueller said. Oregon Man Diary Froze

America's Most Wanted Canceled

America's Most Wanted Canceled - The Fox program, hosted by John Walsh, is responsible for capturing more than 1,000 criminals, including some of the biggest fugitives wanted by the FBI and DEA. But "AMW" isn't gone for good. Fox will air four, two-hour specials throughout the year, in addition to repeats. "We haven’t made money on the show in quite awhile," says Fox Entertainment president, Kevin Reilly. "It wasn’t particularly viable. We wanted to keep the franchise alive." "America's Most Wanted" has been canceled before, albeit temporarily. In 1996, Fox decided to air a block of "Married...With Children," "Martin" and two other shows in "AMW"'s timeslot. But after protests from the public, law enforcement and the governors from 37 states, Fox brought it back. America's Most Wanted Canceled

Genetic Link to Depression

Genetic Link to Depression - Scientists believe they have discovered a genetic link to one of the world's most common and costly mental illnesses. They are calling it the first solid evidence that variations on some people's genes may cause depression. Also, in a rare occurrence, a British led international team's findings of a DNA region linked to depression has been replicated by another team from the u-s. They were studying an entirely separate group of people. Both groups found exactly the same region in two separate studies. Scientists are hoping the findings will bring them closer to developing more effective treatments for patients with depression since currently available medicines for depression only work in around half of patients. Both studies are published in the Journal of Psychiatry. Genetic Link to Depression

Graduate College with Zero Debt

Graduate College with Zero Debt - Clarke, who also earned his bachelor's degree from Washburn, this summer is taking the state certified public accountant and bar exams. He doesn't think his debt is outrageous, considering the cost of education today, but others might feel differently. "It's scary," Clarke said. "A lot of people go into school and expect to make big money in jobs, but not every lawyer is going to a big firm." The average pay last year for the 600 lawyers in Shawnee County was $42.03 per hour, or $87,422 per year, according to the 2005 Kansas Wage Survey published by the Kansas Department of Labor. But salaries for lawyers can start in the $35,000 to $40,000 range. It is common to see wages for public defenders at $40,000, lawyers said. "I have seen jobs posted for $35,000," Clarke said. "I really got lucky because I have a job working at an accounting firm. I definitely don't regret it because I got a very good

Ohio Boy Suspended for Flatulence

Ohio Boy Suspended for Flatulence - An Ohio seventh-grader was suspended last week for doing arguably the most predictable thing a 13-year-old boy could do for a laugh on the school bus. He cut the cheese. Canal Winchester Middle School students Anthony Nichols and another boy lost their bus privileges on Friday for their stinky stunt, which prompted the customary rousing laughter and "lowering of windows," according to the Columbus Dispatch. Administrators ruled that the flatulence was in violation of the school's code of conduct, but if you ask Nichols' parents, the decision reeks of poor judgement. "It's very laughable, that's what it is," said Anthony's father, James Nichols. He said he spoke with the school's vice principal, Daniel Senu-Oke, who "suggested my son should hold his gas on this hour-long bus ride." For a concerned parent, however, that answer just doesn't cut it. "When it happens, it just happen

$5,000 Bowl of Soup

$5,000 Bowl of Soup - Your average bowl of Vietnamese phở should by no means break the bank. So what sets this one apart? Normally, one can expect to pay $10 at most for the mouth-watering broth-filled soup, laden with all the goodies like beef, noodles and cilantro. But from California comes a serving of the traditional staple that is simply exceptional – or so you would expect it to be. Why? It costs a minimum of $5,000 per bowl. (No, that's not the soup pictured above. It would be in a bowl made of diamonds if that were the case.) It seems utterly absurd to pay that much for a bowl of soup – let alone any meal. But it might soften the blow to know that the funds are going toward charity. Tiato, a Vietnamese restaurant in Santa Monica, is holding an invitation-only dinner and auction where the dish will make its debut. The bidding starts at $5,000 for the single bowl of AnQi Phở, and the ingredients are sure to not disappoint. The soup is made with A5 Wagyu beef, white alb

Nigerian 107 Wives

Nigerian 107 Wives - A Nigerian faith healer’s 107 marriages are being scrutinized by the Nigerian government and religious authorities. Bello Maasaba currently has 86 wives, and he plans to marry more women. Maasaba says he led a normal life with only two wives until he was 21-years-old. He claims a vision came to him while he was severely ill. Since Maasaba recovered, he has become a faith healer and begun taking more wives. Maasaba has divorced 12 of his wives, and nine of his wives have died. He is the father to 185 children, and his extended family includes roughly 5,000 members. Many members live in the area surrounding Maasaba’s compound. Islamic authorities and the Nigerian government have made several inquiries into Maasaba’s marriages. A Sharia court ordered the divorce of 82 wives in 2008, but Maasaba refused and was arrested. He was incarcerated for 22 days until Nigeria’s High Court freed him. Nigerian 107 Wives

Jesus Christ Mary Magdalene Couple

Jesus Christ Mary Magdalene Couple - A couple claims to be Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene reincarnated. The couple have set up a base in Queensland near Brisbane in Britain. They claim they have 30 to 40 followers. Christian Church leaders and especially Catholic church leaders in the United Kingdom are worried about the cult that these two have started. They ask that members be cautious when joining new movements. They definitely ask with good reason. Jesus and Mary, real names Alan John Miller and Mary Suzanne Luck, have been asking for donations to "sustain them." Police have said they have been called to investigate screams. They have learned that followers take part in a healing exercise that makes them shout to relieve "past soul damage." Even more scary is that some followers have sold their homes to be clsoer to the "Divine Truth" group. The Daily Telegraph reported, "Miller bought a 40-acre (16ha) property in 2007 and his Divine Tru

"No. 1 NFL Draft Picks" History

"No. 1 NFL Draft Picks" History - The best No. 1 NFL Draft Picks in history is said to be Bruce Smith from the Buffalo Bills in 1985. He is said to be one of the most creative pass rushers and was feared, although he never did win a Super Bowl championship. The next best was Peyton Manning from the Indianapolis Colts in 1998. When he was signed to the team they knew that he was going to be good, but he shocked us all when he re-wrote the record books. Yahoo has the top five best picks in history. There have certainly been a few bad picks as well, but where do we start? David Carr from the Houston Texans in 2002 is one that springs to mind. He was not a solid quarterback, and was a mistake, which is why he was often left as a backup. Next up we have JaMarcus Russell from the Oakland Raiders in 2007. He was used to playing the old style by going long and deep, but the game had changed, and he was unable to adapt. For more details on the worst No.1 NFL Draft Picks visit Yahoo

Loughner Medical Records

Loughner Medical Records - The judge in the Jared Loughner case on Wednesday ordered that Loughner's medical records be produced for a court-ordered psychological evaluator, over the objections of Loughner's defense attorney. Loughner, the suspect in the Jan. 8 shootings outside Tucson that killed six and wounded 13, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, is undergoing psychological evaluation in a government hospital in Missouri to determine if he is competent to stand trial. Loughner is charged with 49 federal felonies stemming from the shooting spree. On April 8, federal prosecutors asked that a psychologist examining Loughner, Dr. Christina Pietz, be provided records from Loughner's pediatrician and from two emergency room visits, one after Loughner showed up for high school classes intoxicated. Judy Clarke, Loughner's lead defense attorney, objected, asking the court and prosecutors to guarantee that the information would not be made public or used agains

Boys Excavator Bulldozer

Boys Excavator Bulldozer - Police say a pair of boys, aged 12 and 9, used a stolen excavator to destroy a $150,000 bulldozer at a strip mine in Pennsylvania. The excavator was used to "flip over and smash" a Caterpillar bulldozer sometime Thursday night at Mable Hill strip mine in Mononghela Township. The boys also sprayed 10 fire extinguishers inside the cabs of the machinery, and tossed rocks through windows of equipment, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police. Total damage is estimated at $164,000. The 12-year-old, from Dilliner, Pa., is charged with criminal mischief. The 9-year-old boy was not charged. Boys Excavator Bulldozer

Steering Wheels are Nine Times Dirtier than Public Toilet Seats

Steering Wheels are Nine Times Dirtier than Public Toilet Seats - A recent study focused on steering wheels shows that these things are up to nine times dirtier as compared to a public toilet seat, according to researchers from Queen Mary University in London. The results of the study are frightening, as researchers found out that up to 700 bacteria live on each square inch of a steering wheel, compared to only 80 bacteria found on an ordinary toilet seat. Dr. Ron Cutler, Director of biomedical science at Queen Mary University, said that one of the most spread bacteria found in car interiors is “bacillus cereus”. This bacteria can cause food intoxication and it is found mostly in pasta, potatoes and rice. “While most of the bacteria were unlikely to cause health problems, some cars were found to play host to a number of potentially harmful bacterial species,” explains Dr Cutler. “Most people clean their homes but many are neglecting to clean their cars and are driving around i

Samantha Ronson Accident

Samantha Ronson Accident - Samantha Ronson is nursing some wounds, after the celebrity DJ got into a bike accident on Saturday. Posting a photo of herself on Twitter, Lindsay Lohan's sometimes-girlfriend showed off two black eyes and other facial bruises. "Wear a helmet kids!!!" she wrote on Monday. "Let this be a lesson... if you have a driver's license you probably don't need to be on a bmx bike." Responding to the many Twitter followers who expressed their concern, Ronson, who got nine stitches after attempting to avoid a car on her way home, tried to put them at ease. "You should see what I looked like on Saturday," she wrote. But even with a banged up face (and some pain meds), Ronson is managing to keep her sense of humor in tact. "Just a little uglier than usual," she posted, with a smiley face. "Other than that, Vicodin is handling the rest." Samantha Ronson Accident

Kim Kardashian Cosmo Cover Upset

Kim Kardashian Cosmo Cover Upset - Kim Kardashian is reportedly fairly upset that her picture ended up on the cover of Turkish ‘Cosmopolitan.’ The reality TV star is allegedly upset because the country is believed to have committed genocide against Armenians, states TMZ. Kim did do the international photo shoot for various magazines published by ‘Cosmo,’ but the Turkey magazine was reportedly not on the list. Kim would reportedly have never allowed her image to be used on that magazine, but she wasn’t aware it was included. Kim Kardashian Cosmo Cover Upset

Pia Toscano CD

Pia Toscano CD - Just days after getting voted off 'American Idol' in shocking fashion, songstress Pia Toscano reportedly snapped up a record deal with Interscope Records, but sources tell me nothing has been signed as management looks into whether 19 Entertainment will allow her to release anything at all. "When you compete on 'Idol,' you must sign one of the strictest contracts in the business," a former 'AI' contestant tells me. "Not only does 'Idol' own you for the entire show and live tour that follows, it also controls everything you can do professionally for a long period after that." That means that 19 Entertainment has first crack at every artist. Pia's rep told E! News over the weekend that all the talk about a done deal is "all rumor," but it's completely true that Interscope has big plans for the Queens native, if only they can get their hands on her. As previously reported, Interscope is already

Porcupines Public Enemy

Porcupines Public Enemy - Pennsylvania hunting regulators say it's time to stick it to porcupines. The Pennsylvania Game Commission is poised to declare open season on the slow-moving, razor-sharp rodents on Tuesday, citing complaints of property damage from residents. Other states allow porcupine hunting. In Pennsylvania, porcupines are listed as a protected species but can be killed by residents if they're causing property damage. Commission member Dave Putnam tells The Philadelphia Inquirer the proposal would offer residents the clear assurance they can kill troublesome porcupines. He says the animals damage log cabins and have been known to nibble on vehicle brake lines. Some animal welfare groups question the plan. Porcupines Public Enemy

Mariah Carey Hospital

Mariah Carey Hospital - Birthday girl Mariah Carey almost got an extra special gift Saturday night! The singer, who's expecting twins with husband Nick Cannon next month, sought medical attention after starting premature labor. "So #dembabies really wanted 2 celebrate w/us/share the anniversary!" she wrote on her Twitter page. "I started having contractions last night..went 2 the hospital. Finally they said I could come home after they got it under control. but hey almost came on 3/27- happy anniversary in deed!!!" Claiming she still had two weeks until her due date, Carey added, "soreadyallready!" South Park Creators Broadway

South Park Creators Broadway - A satirical Broadway show about Mormons who travel from Utah to Uganda by the creators of "South Park" scored rave reviews on Friday from critics who called it the best musical comedy since "The Producers." "The Book of Mormon," which was seven years in the making for Trey Parker and Matt Stone, opened on the Great White Way on Thursday night to reviews that said it balanced clever, humorous songs and lyrics with heartfelt reflections on faith. For Broadway doubters, "the ones who say that heaven on Broadway does not exist, that it's only some myth our ancestors dreamed up, I am here to report that a newborn, old-fashioned, pleasure-giving musical has arrived," the New York Times said. The Times said it perfectly balanced a sharp, irreverent tone, which is "blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak," with themes that test the ideals of faith and has a heart

Florida School Nut Allergy Restrictions

Florida School Nut Allergy Restrictions - A Florida elementary school beset by parental protests is scrapping some of the more severe restrictions it had implemented to protect a first-grader with a severe allergy to nuts, such as obliging classmates to rinse their mouths twice daily with water. Parents were told Wednesday that students at Edgewater Public School, south of Daytona Beach, no longer have to rinse their mouths upon arriving and again after lunch. The school also is easing up on restrictions on classroom snacks, though pupils still must wash their hands and faces at school to avoid introducing nut residue into the classrooms. The measures were implemented earlier to protect a first-grader who could develop breathing problems from contact with nuts. But some parents protested outside school, saying that the measures went too far. Florida School Nut Allergy Restrictions

USDA Fruits and Vegetables in Schools

USDA Fruits and Vegetables in Schools - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Friday that, as authorized by the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008, USDA will expand assistance to state agencies for schools operating USDA’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program in the 2011/2012 school year. Among the territories, Puerto Rico will get $922,269 of the funding, while Guam will get $44,771 and the U.S. Virgin Islands, $27,167. The investment is part of the Obama administration’s efforts to improve the health of our children by providing access to nutritious meals in schools and also serves as a valuable resource to schools that continue working to improve the health and nutrition of the foods they serve. The assistance will provide free fresh fruit and vegetables to children throughout the school day. "Improving the health and nutrition of our kids is a national imperative and by providing schools with fresh fruits and vegetables that expand their healthy options, we ar

Courteney Cox "So Proud" David Arquette - Courteney Cox thinks David Arquette looks the 'best he's ever looked'. The 46-year-old actress - who announced last October she and the actor were undergoing a trial separation after 11 years of marriage - is proud that her estranged husband recently received treatment in rehab for 'alcohol and other issues' and can't believe the transformation in him. She told US TV show 'Extra': 'Oh my God, I'm so proud of him. Best he's ever looked! He's so cute that I'm like, 'Dude, I don't understand. Really?! Why are you that cute right now?' ' Courteney also revealed she and 39-year-old David - with who she has six-year-old daughter Coco - are able to get along better than ever, though she admits it is 'weird' to be in a position of having to examine their relationship. She added: 'Our communication and the way we are, just learning about each other in a di

Abandoned Deaf Puppy

Abandoned Deaf Puppy - Alice, an 8-week-old black and white springer spaniel, was taken to an animal rescue centre after she was abandoned in Ireland. Staff at the centre which took her in instantly knew the puppy would need specialist training and that most people would not want a pup who could not hear commands. But luckily a deaf couple, Marie Williams and Mark Morgan happend to be looking for a dog and decided Alice would be the perfect pet for them. The pair have now started teaching the pup sign language and can use it to instruct her to sit down, sit up, come and roll over. Abandoned Deaf Puppy

Billy Ray Cyrus Could Have Been Better

Billy Ray Cyrus Could Have Been Better - Country music singer and actor Billy Ray Cyrus made waves when he said the Disney Channel TV show "Hannah Montana" destroyed his family, led to his divorce and caused his daughter, singer/actress Miley Cyrus to spin out of control. But this morning on "Good Morning America," the 49-year-old Cyrus sought to clarify those comments, telling "GMA" host Robin Roberts that a lot of what was written in the Feb. 22 issue of GQ Magazine "wasn't exactly what I said." "The way they wrote it, 'Hannah Montana,' you know, destroyed my family -- what I mean to say, and what I hope I said was, fame, the pressures of fame … fame can be a dangerous animal," Cyrus said. "And it's a delicate thing. It's funny. You know, when you get in this industry and … you strike so hard for that moment. But, fame is dangerous …" He said his family was upset with him for the comments to GQ.
