Male Depression Economy

Male Depression Economy - A new study says that being a 21st century man may cause male depression rates to go higher, as uneducated and undereducated men may be pushed out of the job market due to a shifting and unstable economy. Where will they go? Probably home and that may cause issues. The study says if they go home to play Mr. Mom, it may be a painful adjustment. "Western men, particularly those with low education levels, will face a difficult road in the 21st century," write the authors of an editorial in the March issue of The British Journal of Psychiatry. "It may be more difficult, on average, for men to adjust to a domestic role than for women to adjust to a work role." Researchers Boadie Dunlop and Tanja Mletzko, both of Emory University School of Medicine write that with the shift, 'men's failure to fulfill the role of breadwinner is associated with greater depression and marital stress and conflict' with their now more powerful b

FDA Denture Cream Zinc

FDA Denture Cream Zinc - The Food and Drug Administration suggested that manufacturers consider taking zinc out of denture cream, following reports of neurological problems that might be associated with zinc poisoning. Zinc is a mineral that is naturally present in some foods, available as a dietary supplement and added to certain products. Zinc has been added to denture cream to boost its adhesive properties. The FDA said in a Feb. 23 letter sent to denture-adhesive manufacturers that it's received "numerous reports of adverse events related to the use of denture creams" consistent with zinc toxicity. GlaxoSmithKline PLC announced last year that it was removing zinc from its Poligrip brand and other denture-adhesive products. At the time the company said it had "become aware of potential health problems associated with the long-term excessive use of our zinc-containing denture adhesive products." Symptoms of zinc toxicity include nerve damage or numbness

Teens Tanning Salons

Teens Tanning Salons - 17-year-old Grace Moore says she tans only for special occasions. "I think being a teenager I probably tan for prom and homecoming and before and after spring break." But tanning regulations are getting tougher. Now, Moore and other teens need a parent's permission to use the beds. The healthcare law added an extra ten cents to every "tanning dollar." "Being under 18 you are under your parents rules so I think they should be involved in making that decision." Jason Laube, the Owner of Cutting Edge Fitness in Clear Lake, says teens have to come in with a parent and sign a waiver. They also have to read something from the Iowa Department of Public Health. "Right now, we have no one under the age of 16 come in here." 17-year-olds may soon be added to that list after new reports from the American Academy of Pediatrics. They say nearly 9 thousand people died of melanoma last year, and about 70 thousand new melano

E. Coli Shopping Carts

E. Coli Shopping Carts - Parents may want to think twice before dropping their toddlers into the front of a shopping cart, according to a new study. University of Arizona researchers, as reported by MSNBC.com , swabbed shopping cart handles in four states. What they found was that of 85 carts examined, 72 percent had a marker for fecal bacteria. A closer look at samples from 46 carts showed E. coli on half of them. "That's more than you find in a supermarket's restroom," lead researcher Charles Gerba, a professor of microbiology, told MSNBC. He said that's because while disinfecting cleaners are used in restrooms nobody routinely disinfects shopping carts. AOL Health cautioned that while most strains of E. coli are harmless, others can cause illness and some can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness and pneumonia among other illnesses. Gerba discovered in a previous study that children who ride in shopping carts are more likely t

Keith Richards' Daughter Arrested

Keith Richards' Daughter Arrested - Theodora Richards, the daughter of Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, was arrested Tuesday night in Manhattan after police observed her allegedly scrawling on the wall of a SoHo convent — and later discovered she was carrying illegal drugs, authorities said. Richards, 25, who also models and is an art student, was seen writing the message “T Heart A” with a red acrylic paint marker on a white plaster wall of a building containing St. Anthony’s Convent on Prince Street, a law enforcement official said. When the approached by plain clothes Anti-Crime Unit officers, Richards allegedly told them the initials stood for Theodora and Alexandra, her younger sister, the official said. The officers searched Richards and found white pills police believe to be hydrocodine and a small amount of marijuana. According to the official, Richards said she bought the pills from a dealer thinking it was Xanax. The official said Richards told the office

Napping Malaysia Burglar

Napping Malaysia Burglar - A Malaysian court has slapped a five-year prison sentence on a burglar who was found sleeping in a house he broke into. Prosecutor Muhammad Ashraff Diah says the 35-year-old man broke into a house in southern Malaysia last week and spent the night sleeping there. The homeowner returned in the morning and called the authorities before the man woke up. The unemployed man tried to run away when the police arrived. They caught him and recovered several hundred ringgit (dollars) he had taken from the house. Muhammad Ashraff said Wednesday that the man pleaded guilty to a burglary charge this week. California Woman Banana Peel

California Woman Banana Peel - A banana peel, the torment of many a cartoon character, has allegedly become the real-life downfall of a woman in California. Ida Valentine, 58, is suing the 99 Cents Only store where she slipped on one last April. She said that she suffered a herniated disk and tissue damage, spent $9,000 on medical bills and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. "She fell and landed on her backside," said Courtney Mikolaj of the Quirk Law Firm in Ventura, California, which is representing her. Mikolaj said the 99 Cents Only store in Fontana, California, refused a proposed settlement of $44,000. Executives from the company, a deep-discount retailer with hundreds of stores in western states, were not immediately available for comment. The image in popular culture of an unwary pedestrian tripping head over heels on a banana peel stems from the late 19th century, when bananas were a popular street food in American cities and the press portrayed t

Secrets of Hypermiling

Secrets of Hypermiling - Although some hypermilers may go to some extremes to get fantastic mileage, most just practice some simple driving techniques that everyone can use. I guess the biggest tip to making a dent in your fuel consumption is to slow down. Studies have shown that driving a steady 55 mph on the highway leads to better gas mileage. But if you are like me, you want to make sure that you are doing at least the speed limit whenever you can. So if the speed limit is 65 mph the chances are pretty good that that is the speed I am going to be traveling at. You can also use the momentum of the road to help you increase your gas mileage. That means coasting whenever possible. If you live in a hilly area like I do, then you can just take your foot off of the gas when you are going downhill. It's also a good idea to take your food off of the gas pedal and coast to the stop sign or traffic light. Accelerate before you get to a hill if possible instead of waiting until you

How to Invest in ETFs

How to Invest in ETFs - The question of how to invest in ETFs is being asked by many people. These days, more and more people are looking towards atypical ways of making their money work for them. This does not necessarily mean they are looking for odd or obtuse ways of investing their money as much as they are seeking strategies that are not typical ones. One such way people wish to put their money to use for them would be through ETF trading since this can prove to be a viable way to earn solid returns and profits. Of course, this does raise questions regarding what would be the best way to go about trading such items. Some may be curious as to what ETFs are. ETF refers to exchange traded funds. This means they are funds that contain a great variety of stocks. The sheer volume of the stocks could range upwards of a hundred or more. Since you are diversifying through the stocks, you can survive if any number of the stocks does poorly as long as there are other stocks that can hedge

Internet Explorer has Stopped Working

Internet Explorer has Stopped Working - This seems a bit strange because Internet Explorer 9 was out for download not too long ago and while we have not received any confirmation on whether it is IE9 or IE8, it seems that the internet Explorer has stopped functioning properly for many users. If this is some kind of a temporary problem, then it might not be too bad. But if it is a bug that needs a fix, then it could be further bad news for Internet Explorer’s future. Apparently this is the message that some of the users have been getting while trying to access their IE: “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.” Now we really do not know to what extent this has happened since we ourselves use either Firefox or the Chrome for our daily browsing needs. But if it is IE8 that you are facing this problem with, then jumping to iE9 might help. Maybe a tweak in your settings will also help solve

Luther Vandross House is not a Home

Luther Vandross House is not a Home - Jacob Lusk picks a great old Burt Bacharach/Hal David ballad, A House Is Not a Home, famously recorded by both Dionne Warwick and Luther Vandross. Jacob, wearing an elegant dark suit and two earrings, cuts a figure somewhere between the two. His performance isn't understated, exactly, but it's wonderfully nuanced. Subtle, even, which isn't a word I would have used previously to describe Jacob. And there are a couple runs in there I'd kill to be able to pull off. That the American people get to hear a voice like that today is just unbelievable," Steven says. He's honored to be in Jacob's presence. "Divine intervention." Jennifer says that Luther Vandross was her favorite singer of all time. "He's gone, but now we have you." Luther Vandross House is not a Home
