Ann Curry Speech Gaffe

Ann Curry Speech Gaffe - “Today Show”’s host Ann Curry is in some hot water after forgetting to fact check a recent graduation address. She was invited to give the commencement address at Wheaton College in Massachusetts over the weekend. During her address, she told the students how fond she was of the programs that are offered at the school, and also went on to name some of their most famous alumni, including Billy Graham, Lesley Stahl, Wes Craven and Todd Beamer. Unfortunately for Curry, Lesley Stahl attended a different Wheaton College that is located in Illinois. After she was made aware of the mistake, she wrote a letter or appology to the school. “I am mortified by my mistake, and can only hope the purity of my motive, to find a way to connect with the graduates and to encourage them to a life of service, will allow you to forgive me,” Curry wrote to the school. She also went on to name a number of other Wheaton alumni that she could have mentioned in her commencement address t

Von Hillebrandt said, according to the measuring instruments, the phenomenon spread to eight minutes even when a citizen’s perception was 10 to 15 seconds. The expert explained that there has been only one reply directly related to the earthquake and it took four minutes following the main event and it was a magnitude 3.2 degrees on the Richter scale. Ohio Unemployment

Ohio Unemployment - Ohio’s unemployment compensation trust fund is broke and owes more than $2 billion to the federal government, yet the fund is losing tens of millions in revenue because the rate for part of the employers’ tax that supports it declined this year, a research organization reported. “Ohio’s system for financing unemployment compensation is broken,” said Zach Schiller, research director for Policy Matters Ohio, the Cleveland-based organization that has been studying the trust fund’s problems. The rate reduction came in what is called the “mutualized rate,” one of three factors included in establishing the unemployment tax rates levied on the first $9,000 in each employee’s earnings, Policy Matters Ohio said. The state uses the mutualized account to pay benefits to former employees of companies that have gone out of business. That part of the employer’s tax declined this year by $18 per employee because federal stimulus funds Ohio received were put into that account, inc

Vitamin D For Healthy Bones

Vitamin D For Healthy Bones - High doses of vitamin D increase the number of falls and fractures in older women, say Australian researchers, who warn against using the vitamin in this way. Geoff Nicholson, of Barwon Health and the University of Melbourne in Geelong, and colleagues investigated the impact of a single annual high-dose of oral vitamin D on older women. "We expected to find a reduction in falls and fractures but we found exactly the opposite," says Professor Nicholson, whose findings appear today in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Vitamin D is needed in order for the body to absorb calcium, necessary for healthy bones. It also plays a role in keeping muscles strong, especially those around the limb girdles. Professor Nicholson says while the Sun is a major source of the vitamin, indoor lifestyles and the advent of anti-skin cancer campaigns have contributed to low vitamin D levels.
