Yannick Brea Murdered By Ugly Betty Star

Yannick Brea Murdered By Ugly Betty Star - 'Ugly Betty' actor Michael Brea has allegedly murdered his 55-year-old mother by severing her head with a 3-foot long samurai sword while chanting biblical incantations.

The 31-year-old actor, who appeared in some episodes of the hit US TV series, was accused of slicing Yannick Brea's head at their Brooklyn, New York home, TMZ reported.

"I hear the brother chasing her (his mother) through the house and he's just saying a bunch of (Bible) passages like, 'Repent, Repent,Repent'," said a neighbour.

"I heard him chasing her through the house and I hear a loud scream and so I have my father call the cops, call 911."

Brea was arrested Tuesday morning after police found him clutching a bible and repeating verses of repentance and religion from it.

Arriving at the scene at 2:20am, the police found it "extremely bloody."

Brea was taken to a nearby hospital for psychiatric evaluation and will …

Meijer Recalls Heaters

Meijer Recalls Heaters - Meijer, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, voluntarily recalled about 6,700 Touch Point Oscillating Ceramic Heaters due to fire and burn hazards they pose. The CPSC announced the defective product recall on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010.

Meijer initiated the recall of Touch Point Oscillating Ceramic Heaters upon discovering that the heater’s oscillating mechanism has the potential to short out, leaving consumers susceptible to fire hazards.

The Michigan-based importer received word of two incidents in which the flaw caused a fire to ignite, resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled ceramic heaters as of yet.

According to the CPSC news release, “This recall involves Touch Point PTC oscillating ceramic heater with model number PTC-902 and serial numbers between 35005-43008. Model and serial numbers are located on a sticker on the bottom of the heater. The grey/silver colored heaters are ab…

Tonga Holds First Vote

Tonga Holds First Vote - Residents of the tiny Pacific island of Tonga voted Thursday for their first popularly-elected parliament, with King George Tupou V hailing the moment as "the greatest" day in its history.

Tonga's 42,000 voters will elect 17 of the 26 members of parliament, with the remaining nine reserved for the kingdom's nobility.

Electoral officials said voting was "steady" and provisional results were expected late Thursday.

Previously the parliament was dominated by politicians selected by the monarch, who also picked the prime minister and cabinet.

The swing towards democracy follows riots in the capital Nuku'alofa four years ago, which claimed eight lives and destroyed much of the business centre as people protested against the slow pace of political reform.

In an address to the nation ahead of polling, the king said the election was "the greatest and most historic day for our kingdom.

"You will choose your representative to th…

Ben Massi

Ben Massi - This should come as little surprise, but Ben Massey of 86 Forever is one person happy to hear about the Canadian Soccer Association's moratorium decision.

The American soccer leagues have never been as stable as their defenders pretend, while professional soccer in Canada is at an all-time high point in popularity.

Obviously, Massey is using entirely different standards for the two sides to make this argument. Division 2 instability is not simply about butts in seats and the relative popularity of the sport in Canada does not guarantee league stability.

He does, however, make some compelling points about the need for a truly national domestic league, something the country of 33 million people has lacked since the demise of the Canadian Soccer League in 1992.

A Canadian league, with Canadian quotas, would assure our players of a home. It would also allow for an all-Canadian development path: players could enter a Canadian soccer academy, make one of our MLS teams if the…

South Korea Raises Security After North Korea Attack

South Korea Raises Security After North Korea Attack - South Korea's president is vowing to boost security around islands near the site of this week's artillery attack by North Korea.

The comments Thursday came during a meeting of top government officials aimed at reviewing security and economic impacts of the exchange of fire Tuesday that left four South Koreans dead and the region on edge.

Yonhap news agency reported that South Korean President Lee Myung-bak ordered his officials to beef up security around islands off South Korea's western coast.

Pyongyang, meanwhile, is lashing out against the United States and South Korea, warning of more retaliation if Seoul carries out "reckless military provocations."

Black Friday iPad

Black Friday iPad - EA is apparently all about Thanksgivings sales and their festive spirit extends to Black Friday as well. Mirror’s Edge is not so much in impulse buy iPad App Store territory as it is on Impulse Buy mountain firing signal flares and showing skin to passing helicopters at $5.99, and from what we gather the smaller but still rousing tale of intrepid free runner Faith is worth every penny. What about the smaller but still rousing (no pun intended, honest) tale of intrepid Tiger Woods? Well let’s just say you need to see the way Tiger Woods PGA Tour is carrying on.

$1 for what is widely held as the best golf game in the App Store is not a price at which you can afford to still be reading this and continue not buying Tiger Woods for precious seconds. We realize you may not like golf, Tiger Woods or even games that much, but there are not a heck of a lot of cases of preemptive buyer’s remorse that aren’t completely obliterated by the watertight “It’s a dollar!” argument.

Southeast Asian Flying snakes

Southeast Asian Flying snakes - By slithering back and forth, the so-called flying snakes of Southeast Asia are capable of scaling trees hundreds of feet tall in a matter of minutes, and taking flying leaps off trees before moving back and forth to delay their landing. "Basically ... they become one long wing," said John Socha, the Virginia Tech researcher who specializes in flying-snake study. While Socha's work was previously funded by the National Geographic Society, the government has since taken an interest in him, and his recent work on the aerodynamics of snake flight was sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. DARPA, which works with advanced military technologies, would not say exactly why they're interested in airborne snakes, or if any snake-inspired planes are in the works. Videos of flying snakes are available here.

Vladimir Guerrero Wins DH Award

Vladimir Guerrero Wins DH Award - The awards keep piling up for the Texas Rangers with Vladimir Guerrero winning the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award on Wednesday.

Guerrero beat out Boston's David Oritz and Minnesota's Jim Thome. Toronto's Adam Lind won the award last year.

Guerrero had a bounce-back season, hitting .300 with 29 homers and 115 RBIs in 152 games in his first season in Texas. He hit .306 with 106 RBIs as the DH to lead all players in that role.

He becomes the second Ranger to win the award after Rafael Palmeiro in 1999.

It's not clear if Guerrero will be back with the Rangers next season. The team declined a $9 million option for 2011 on Guerrero's contract. He received a $1 million buyout, but the team has expressed interest in working out a new deal.

The designated hitter award is voted on by club beat writers, broadcasters and American League public relations departments. An outstanding DH has been named since 1973, and in 2004 c…

Firebreather Movie

Firebreather Movie - For nearly three decades, Peter Chung has been a name in 2D animation, with such titles as “C.O.P.S.” and MTV’s “Aeon Flux” series. Now, he’s joining the 3D ranks, directing Cartoon Network’s first CGI movie, “Firebreather,” which premieres Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET/PT. “Firebreather,” based on the comic book series by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn, is the story of a teenager named Duncan whose mother is human and whose father is Belloc, a 120-foot fire-breathing monster king. Hero Complex writer Noelene Clark caught up with Chung for Five Questions.

PC: It’s funny, because it’s where I started. A lot of people know me for my work on “Aeon Flux” and think of my work as being targeted for adults, but I started doing stuff for a younger audience. So for me, it’s not strange for me to be doing something like this at all. In this specific instance, I would say, it’s very satisfying now to sit with an audience and watch the movie and just have them respond very spontaneously …

Cambodia Stampede Deaths Revised Down

Cambodia Stampede Deaths Revised Down - The latest statement by the sub- committee for urgent settlement on the Diamond Island bridge accident Thursday morning revised the death toll figure of the major stampede to 347, a big drop from the previous 456.

The statement, signed by the chairman of the sub-committee Ith Samheng, who is also the minister of social affairs, said the previous figure of death toll was incorrect due to some overlap in the statistics.

This is a major amendment for the death toll figure of 456 provided by the same sub-committee Wednesday afternoon.

By 00:30 a.m. on Thursday, after verification, 347 were dead in the stampede, of which 126 men and 221 women, said the latest statement.

It also revised down the injury number from 755 to 395, saying the latter was based on the statistics by the hospitals.

Earlier the Bayon TV, owned by the daughter of the Prime Minister Hun Sen, reported 755 people had got injured in the stampede on Monday night, the final day of the …

Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving Quotes

Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving Quotes - Thanksgiving is less than 24 hours away, and what better way to celebrate–well other than with turkey, cranberries and stuffing–than to brush up on your Thanksgiving trivia, and have a few quotes in your pocket to throw out to the family over dinner.

So, Happy Thanksgiving! And read up…

It is thought that the Native American Indians out numbered the Plymouth colonists nearly two to one on the first Thanksgiving which lasted for three days.
The Wampanoag Native American Indians shared an autumn harvest feasts with the Plymouth colonists in 1621 that is known today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations.
In the middle of the Civil War, 16th President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed Thanksgiving Day to be a national holiday.
Contrary to popular belief, even though wild turkeys were around during the first Thanksgiving feast, they were not served.
Instead, the Native American Indians and Plymouth colonists feasted on various seafood, dee…

Turkey Gravy Recipe From Drippings

Turkey Gravy Recipe From Drippings - While the Thanksgiving feast is often filled with potential pitfalls, from overcooked turkey to lumpy mashed potatoes, nothing seems to cause more angst than making gravy. If done well, turkey gravy can be the star of the show, enveloping everything on the plate in a rich, savory blanket. If you are like my brother-in-law, gravy is by far the most important part of the meal, prompting your relatives to buy you a gravy thermos so that you can have your own personal supply of the thick sauce sitting beside your placemat. Everyone deserves to be indulged once in a while.

This recipe does not involve adding wine or herbs, though those things can provide very satisfying results, too. Rather, this version is as basic as turkey gravy recipe can get. And you know what? It works every time. Be sure to scroll down beyond the recipe for some troubleshooting tips, just in case you run into problems. Is your gravy too thick? Too thin? Too salty? I listed soluti…

Cornbread Stuffing Recipe

Cornbread Stuffing Recipe - Whether to you stuff your bird before roasting or bake it separately, stuffing is a Thanksgiving must-have and oh-so-good on your Thanksgiving leftover sandwiches the next day!

I prefer cornbread stuffing, my favorite being the southwestern cornbread stuffing recipe below. I’m also including a few other recipes I’ve tried over the years and loved. And, below the recipes are tips on cooking your stuffing in your bird or baking it separately.

Butterball Turkey Talker

Butterball Turkey Talker - More than 45 million turkeys will be cooked this Thanksgiving, which means there will be 45 million possible cooking mistakes in kitchens across the country.

Butterball is doing its part to help solve difficult turkey situations with the Butterball Turkey Hotline, a phone line set up each year with 50 trained "turkey talkers" waiting to take your questions about the best way to prepare a show-stopping bird.

ABC's "World News Now" spoke with Marge Klindera, who has been talking turkey on the hotline for over 28 years, about avoiding common turkey mistakes.

What is the number one problem faced by first-time turkey cooks? Thawing.

"Most people don't allow enough time and then they get panicked about cooking their bird," said Kildera.

"You can always leave it in the bag, immerse it in cool water and then for each pound it takes 30 minutes. You can do a combination: Start it in the refrigerator then put it in cold water…

Unemployment Benefits Expire

Unemployment Benefits Expire - After this Saturday, November 27, if you want an extension on your federal unemployment benefits, you are out of luck.

Congress has not yet voted to extend the benefits which means the unemployment office in Michigan will not be processing any new claims.

Penny Swan has been unemployed for almost two years and she relies heavily on her federal unemployment benefits that will run out next week.

"It means I can't pay rent I don't have any money for food. I can't put gas in my car I can't buy medicine I need. Anything you go out and spend money for isn't there," said Swan.

Saturday is the last possible day to apply for a federal extension. The state unemployment office is not processing any new federal emergency unemployment claims.

"It's a creature of federal law and unfortunately the state of Michigan is powerless to control it," said Stephen Geskey, the director of Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency.

Tom Delay Convicted Of Money Laundering

Tom Delay Convicted Of Money Laundering - Tom DeLay, the former U.S. House majority leader whose name became synonymous with the Republicans’ controversial rise to power, was found guilty today of laundering money in connection with the 2002 elections.

He faces a possible sentence of 5-99 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine on the money laundering charge, and 2-20 years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine on the conspiracy charge.

Prosecutors earlier said they believe the DeLay case is the first such criminal charge ever filed over Texas’ century-old prohibition on corporate contributions in state political races.

Delay, a Republican who was nicknamed “The Hammer” because of his heavy-handed style, was accused of conspiring to funnel $190,000 of corporate money through the Republican National Committee, which sent $190,000 in campaign donations to seven GOP candidates for the Texas House.

Cranberry Orange Relish Recipe

Cranberry Orange Relish Recipe - My parents, whom I love dearly, are hurtling into their respective dotages, and their house is getting weird right along with them. It's not scary or sad or Hoarders-ey, so much as it's something you may recognize from your own place, only with a few decades more stuff and a very adorable little dog in the mix. What's at work here is a certain settling, I guess, that reflects an unspoken détente with all the piles of old paper and dusty shelved knicknackery. My parents' non-aggression pact with those lifetimes of stuff makes for a tense border in nearly every room, and their coexistence with their things is not always peaceful—there are spasmodic organizing bouts from my mother, and the piles of dusty files periodically and unexpectedly yield to avalanche.

The collapse of one of those manila towers startled me awake when I was sleeping in the guest room a few months back. I was sleeping in the guest room because my room now belongs to b…

Thanksgiving: Candied Yams

Thanksgiving: Candied Yams - There are two types of people in this world, those who like marshmallows on their sweet potatoes and those who would rather be stuck seated next to crazy drunk Aunt Margaret for three hours than be forced to eat said side. In my humble opinion, marshmallows should not be allowed within a 2-foot radius of sweet potatoes, or any otherwise savory dish. It’s just not right. S’mores? Sure. But please keep them away from my vegetables.

So in honor of my aversion, following are some alternative approaches to the mighty yam. (And for your Thanksgiving tuber trivia (you can wow ‘em over cocktails with this one): In America, although the terms have become interchangeable, we have sweet potatoes, not yams–the two are not related botanically.)

How about you? Do you pass on the candied sweet potatoes, or ask to please pass them your way, stat? I know many people who love the sweet goop piled high on theirs (and they’re still my friends). Vote in the poll at the end of …

Thanksgiving: Turkey Cooking Times Per Pound

Thanksgiving: Turkey Cooking Times Per Pound - According to the article, you need to do two things first:
Measure the weight of the turkey in pounds.
Multiply the weight by 15 to determine the total number of minutes to cook it.

So for example, your turkey is 20 lbs, then the turkey cooking time is 20 x 15 equals 300 minutes.

Other important notes given are:
The cooking time calculate given is for an unstuffed, thawed turkey in a 325 degree F oven. Just add 15 minutes cooking time if the turkey is stuffed.
Insert a cooking thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh to make sure that the turkey is cooked to 180 degrees F before taking it out of the oven. If your turkey is stuffed, the temperature of the stuffing should be at least 165 degrees F.

Happy turkey Thanksgiving!

Christy Martin In Hospital

Christy Martin In Hospital - Christy Martin, a legendary female boxer who amassed a career record of 49-5-3 (31 KOs), has been hospitalized after being shot and stabbed yesterday in her Orange County, Fla. home, according to a TMZ report.

The 42-year-old former boxing champion and cover of a 1996 "Sports Illustrated" reportedly was able to escape from her home after the attack and wave down a passing motorist. After she was rushed to the hospital, she managed to tell police that the attacker was her husband, James Martin, according to the TMZ report.

The report goes on to state that James Martin is still at large and they are currently "on the hunt" for the suspected attacker.

Don King, Martin's former promoter told TMZ, "I am shocked and saddened to see this happen to Christie. I send my prayers and well wishes."

Apple iPod Touch 4G

Apple iPod Touch 4G - Several months on the shelves now, in the final leg toward Christmas, the iPod Touch 4G has established itself as arguably the best dedicated personal media player on the planet. And it’s done this on the back of nine years of experience building iPod devices, and the software platform – iTunes – that supports it. It is all but guaranteed that Apple will sell this device by the buckets come Christmas, and here’s all you need to know if you’re considering getting your hands on one.

The iPod Touch 4G comes in three capacities: 8GB, 32GB and 64GB. The 16GB version seen in previous generations has been completely dropped. Outside of capacity, these devices are all pretty much the same thing.

The new features the iPod Touch 4G offers are dual-facing cameras, allowing for 720p HD video recording, still camera functionality, and FaceTime calling. The Retina Display, which made its debut on the iPhone 4, also makes a welcome appearance here. Alt…

Pauls TV Black Friday Specials

Pauls TV Black Friday Specials - It used to be that mapping out “Black Friday” plans was part of the Thanksgiving Day ritual.

Stuffed from their turkey feast, families would gather around sales ads and hone their shopping strategies for the next day.

But, more and more, savvy shoppers are putting together their Black Friday itinerary before they tackle their holiday menu. In fact, it’s getting harder to squeeze in the meal.

With more stores opening on Thanksgiving Day or starting earlier on Black Friday, families might be tempted to spend more time shopping or standing in line than basting the bird.

Shoppers who want to get a head start on their Black Friday planning are aided by plethora of retailer websites posting deals earlier than ever. Several — Macy’s, Sears, Target and Kohl’s — have leaked out.

Other retailers, such as Walmart and Home Depot, guard their deals under threat of legal action.
This year, Walker-based Meijer is giving a sneak peek of its Black Friday ads at connect…

Paul's TV Black Friday

Paul's TV Black Friday - We all get caught up in the deals that are on offer for Black Friday, dissecting each ad and door buster, but is this weekend really the best time to make a purchase, especially when it comes to a big-ticket item like an HDTV?

There are signs that even Black Friday sales like the $298 40-inch Westinghouse LCD at Target aren’t going to make consumers go gaga over TVs. The majority of American households now possess at least one HDTV, which makes it less likely to be a top priority this shopping season. Instead, it appears that laptops remain popular and the iPad is this year’s hot new product — not 3D sets like TV manufacturers were hoping.

So you can guess what happens if TVs don’t fly off the shelves this Black Friday weekend. As Paul Semenza, senior vice president of NPD Group’s DisplaySearch, told

Inventory pressures are building up throughout the supply chain. We’ll start to see even more aggressive pricing in a second wave later in the h…

Megyn Kelly In GQ Shoot

Megyn Kelly In GQ Shoot - Megyn Kelly, the 40-year-old Fox newsreader, appears in a revealing shoot for Gq magazine's December issue, reports the Uk's Daily Mail. Kelly, who recently announced that she is expecting her second child, wears black lingerie in the spread and the magazine claims that her "beauty and intelligence" have made her the face of Fox News.
Kelly is now considered to be one of the most popular anchors on the network, and Gq say she is "Abhorred by the left, adored by the right, frequently pinata'd by The Daily Show, Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly has become the very blonde face - and legs - of the network. And she's okay with that". In the supporting interview, the newsreader speaks about the amount of fan-mail she receives, saying, "Some of them just say, 'You're hot' - which, you know, I don't find insulting. But the ones that go a little over the top get deleted right away".

Cookie Monster Auditions

Cookie Monster Auditions - Sure, we loved Betty White's appearance as a host on Saturday Night Live, but we jumped for joy when we found out our favorite furry blue monster launched an Internet campaign yesterday to get him on the show.

That's right, after nearly 30 years on "Sesame Street," Cookie Monster is ready for his debut on live TV and, to prove it, he put together an audition tape that dazzles. We're trying to decide on our favorite part: Is it when he's foiled by an explosive situation in a take-off on the show's MacGyver parody? When he nails a newsworthy punchline in his version of "Weekend Update?" Or is it his melodious performance as "Cookie Gaga," complete with fancy eyelashes and a cookie -- not meat -- dress.

We think SNL creator Lorne Michaels should give the talented monster a shot -- especially in light of a report from the New York Daily News that the Muppets -- who were regularly featured on SNL's first seaso…

Obama Gives Mythbusters A Mission

Obama Gives Mythbusters A Mission - In the midst of trying to fix the nation's problems, President Barack Obama is attempting to get to the bottom of another matter: the legend of Archimedes' solar ray. That's why he's called in the "Mythbusters" team for a little help.

"I am a big fan of 'Mythbusters,'" Obama tells incredulous co-hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman in a clip of his upcoming episode. "I am and so are the girls. I think we have a big one that hasn't been thoroughly tested: It is Archimedes' solar ray."

According to legend, Greek scientist Archimedes set fire to invading Roman ships using just mirrors and sun rays during the Siege of Syracuse in 214 B.C.

Or did he?

That's the challenge the president issues to the "Mythbusters" team. "Figure this out and report back to me," he commands them.

The episode featuring President Obama airs on the Discovery Channel on December 8.

Drain water and then run fresh cold water over the eggs until cool enough to hold. Peel the eggs and then slice each egg in half lengthwise.
Remove the egg yolks and place in a small bowl and mash. Add mayonnaise, celery, Old Bay, and mustard…
