Social Media Etiquette

Social Media Etiquette - Please don’t send every little app you try. If you’re not aware that you’re doing it, you probably still are. Be sure to click “no” or “skip” or whatever lets you not invite me to yet another little green patch, zombie biting experience, or buy my friends experience. Don’t write obnoxious links back to your stuff on people’s walls. Use them to be human. Starting multi-user messages in Facebook is tricky, because then almost every reply becomes a “reply all.” Think about that. Consider who you tag in which photos. This shows up on the user’s profile as well, and can sometimes become a bit awkward. Sending endless promotional emails via your group gets old quick. Be mindful of this. Social Media Etiquette

Top Facebook Faux Pas

Top Facebook Faux Pas - Social media is a key part of the lives of most Millennials, and Facebook is the biggest player. As such, there are some basic rules of Facebook etiquette every Millennial should know and follow. According to InsideFacebook.com, as of Feb 1, 2010, over 24 million Millennials (those aged 18 to 34) have Facebook accounts, which accounts for 52 percent of all Facebook users. That means there is a ridiculous amount of status updates, picture posting and messages sent by Gen Y’ers via the social media powerhouse. Hopefully most Millennials know not to do these things. Top Facebook Faux Pas One of the best features of Facebook is its ability to make the world a little smaller and allow you to spread important information (when was the last time you sent an evite, we all just use Facebook these days); however, that can be abused so easily. No, we don’t care if you love Mafia Wars. Chances are if your friend isn’t already playing it, he/she doesn’t want to. And,

Fired over Facebook

Fired over Facebook - How many times have you updated your Facebook status to say "…is bored at work"? Probably at least once, though statistically that number averages at 3.4 times a week.* (*Not a real statistic.) But can you imagine getting fired for it? Because that's what happened to Briton teen, Kimberly Swann. She was summarily sacked after her boss learned -- via her updated status -- that she was "bored at work." In this hilarious CNN segment, a journalist does a search for the terms "bored" and "work" on Facebook and Twitter, and finds that Swann certainly isn't alone. (Further research would no doubt dig up folks saying far worse things about their place of employment). Her boss, meanwhile, says Swann's admission of boredom revealed that "she just wasn't happy here" and thus "it wasn't going to work out." We're no experts, but why was the boss perusing Facebook on company time? Was he, p

Mccaughey Septuplets Documentary

Mccaughey Septuplets Documentary - The "Today" show's Ann Curry has been covering the McCaughey family's seven children—the world's first surviving septuplets—since they first got on the media's radar in November 1997. Parents Bobbi and Kenny McCaughey graced the cover of Time magazine in Dec. 1997, just weeks after the children were born. And the family's personal struggle not only struck a chord with the public but also sparked discussion and debate about the use of fertility drugs. Mccaughey Septuplets Documentary The arrival of the septuplets also prompted well wishers to donate some crucial gifts to the McCaughey home in order to aid the parents contending with the challenge of seven new mouths to feed. The donations included a large new house, a van and a two-year supply of diapers. The state of Iowa also offered the kids free tuition at any state university after their graduation from high school. The septuplets' birth also inspired some

Chris Brown Twitter Argument

Chris Brown Twitter Argument - The troubled singer and sometimes actor spent Wednesday in a Twitter shouting match with singer Raz-B over some unsolicited comments the former member of the R&B group B2K made. The first shot was fired by Raz-B earlier in the afternoon when he randomly tweeted, "Im just sittin here Thinking how can n---- like @ebenet [Eric Benet] and @chrisbrown disrespect women as Intelligent as Halle Berry, Rihanna." It didn’t take long for Brown to fire back on his own Twitter account. Chris Brown Twitter Argument In several tweets that would best be described as racially offensive, not to mention homophobic, Brown laced into Raz-B, essentially questioning the 25-year-old’s sexuality. Brown referenced allegations Raz-B made about being molested by several of his band's former managers, including one who was his cousin. Raz-B responded with his own tweet that also questioned Brown’s sexuality and later added, “I luv (sic) how u resort 2 dis

Suge Knight Killed Tupac

Suge Knight Killed Tupac - The internet was sent into a mini-frenzy today when a report "broke" that stated Death Row head Marion "Suge" Knight had been arrested in connection with the murder of Tupac Shakur. Despite obvious over-dubs and a date of "May 20, 2010" present in the video, many seemed to buy into the hoax. However, The Source is here to put all rumors to rest. The video and report were fakes and Knight has not been arrested for the murder of Shakur. Suge Knight Killed Tupac

Christie Brinkley Humor got me Through Divorce

Christie Brinkley Humor got me Through Divorce - Christie Brinkley has insisted that her sense of humor was key to surviving her divorce from ex-husband Peter Cook. The pair ended their marriage in 2008 following reports that Cook had been unfaithful. The supermodel admitted to Prevention magazine that laughing helped her to get though such a difficult time. "You've got to find a way to keep laughing, even if it's black humor, and my friends are very good at that," she said. "Some people think of happiness as a luxury, but it's a necessity, and you need to make space for it in your life." Brinkley further suggested that she is not actively pursuing romantic relationships at the present time. She explained: "Most of the time, I've got my kids with me, so I'm not as prone to meeting people… And then, you never really know if someone is talking to you because you're a celebrity. It's not my number one priority." Christ

Nintendo Warns 3D not Safe for Kids

Nintendo Warns 3D not Safe for Kids - 3D is the hot new media trend as of late -- but is it safe? Not for children under 6, warns Nintendo. In anticipation of the impending Nintendo World 2011 and the launch of its upcoming portable console, the Nintendo 3DS, the influential video game company has posted a cautionary note on its Japanese website. “Vision of children under the age of six has been said [to be in the] developmental stage,” Nintendo warned. The company fears that 3D content “delivers 3D images with different left and right images, [which] has a potential impact on the growth of children’s eyes.” Nintendo Warns 3D not Safe for Kids But users of all ages can succumb to the perils of 3D experience. Since the 3DS creates the illusion of 3D without the need for glasses, it can add extra eye strain, causing users to feel sick or nauseous after extended use. In July, Sony warned of similar issues with its PlayStation 3, amending its terms of service to offer a stark warn

Steve Harvey Multi-Media King

Steve Harvey Multi-Media King - LET'S review Steve Harvey's year. (This may take a while.) His syndicated radio show has an audience of six million, and President Obama has been one of his guests. A version of the show appears in prime time on the Centric cable channel. He became the host of the long-running "Family Feud" game show. His advice book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" spent a good part of the past two years on The New York Times's hardcover advice best-seller list, was No. 1 for 23 weeks, and is being made into a movie by Screen Gems. The recently published sequel, "Straight Talk, No Chaser," had an initial printing of 750,000 copies and makes its debut at No. 1 on the advice list on Sunday. ...Mr. Harvey has become "a legitimate, genuine American media star," said Michael Harrison, the publisher of Talkers magazine, which covers the radio business. "He's a successful radio host for the African-American com

Queensland Floods Continue

Queensland Floods Continue - Mass evacuations will be carried out in Emerald with floods expected to hit 80 per cent of the inland Queensland town on Friday. To the east, floodwaters have split the coastal city of Bundaberg in two, inundating 120 properties and forcing about 400 evacuations. And it's feared Rockhampton, north of Bundaberg, could be isolated by the end of the week as floodwaters peak there. "I think it's without precedent in our recorded history, with so many places in so many diverse parts of the state each affected so critically all at once," Premier Anna Bligh told the ABC on Thursday morning. Queensland Floods Continue "There is weeks left in managing this crisis," she said adding that communities could remain inundated for up to 10 days after flood levels peaked. (Read more: Farmers, miners brace for flood impact) "I expect that we'll still be managing some of this right until the end of January. This is a disaster

Owen Wilson Death is a Hoax

Owen Wilson Death is a Hoax - Have no fear. Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy will (probably) make you laugh again. Both actors are alive and well, despite death hoaxes crafted Wednesday to make fans think otherwise. Like the Charlie Sheen prank launched just after Christmas, a faux news organization called Global Associated News spread false reports claiming the stars had died in tragic accidents. Owen Wilson Death is a Hoax "Actor Owen Wilson is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today," read one of the stories. But the claim is "absolutely false," Wilson's rep told the Daily News. The exact same article was written about Murphy and – guess what – he's fine, too. Even ailing Aretha Franklin, who is recovering from surgery reportedly for pancreatic cancer, was a "victim" of a similar false rumor Tuesday. Thankfully, "Aretha is doing fine," her rep confirmed to the News later that day. GAN's

Prehistoric Tumors

Prehistoric Tumors - Prehistoric tumors that were found 10 years ago in a Scythian burial mound have come to light in the news recently. Their existence is leading to questions about modern cancers and how much we've really been doing to ourselves. The case for cancer existing prior to the Industrial Revolution certainly did not need to be made. It's been known for some time that cancer has always been with us. But how much we've been doing it to ourselves is where opinion diverges. The Scythian prehistoric tumors or--better put-- the remnants of same, were found in the skeleton of a middle-aged man who apparently died of metastasized prostate cancer. The pain he must have felt from the tumors in his body is hard to imagine. Prehistoric Tumors The New York Times notes researchers have found about 200 possible cancer deaths out of thousands of skeletons over the years. But are such prehistoric and pre-Industrial Age tumors proof we've always had cancer a lot or

Police Fatalities Jump 2010

Police Fatalities Jump 2010 - Two officers in a remote Alaska town were ambushed as they chatted on a street. A California officer and deputy were killed by an arson suspect with a high-powered rifle as they tried to serve a warrant. Two other officers doing anti-drug work were gunned down by men along a busy Arkansas highway. These so-called cluster killings of more than one officer helped make 2010 a particularly deadly year for law enforcement. Deaths in the line of duty jumped 37 percent to about 160 from 117 the year before, according to numbers as of Tuesday compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a nonprofit that tracks police deaths. There also was a spike in shooting deaths. Fifty-nine federal, state and local officers were killed by gunfire in 2010, a 20 percent jump from last year's figures, when 49 were killed. The total does not include the death of a Georgia State Patrol trooper shot in the neck Monday night in Atlanta as he tried to make

California Thieves Television Too Big

California Thieves Television Too Big - Police in California say thieves who stole a large television from a Sacramento home were thwarted when it wouldn't fit in the getaway car. Investigators say the burglars entered the home through a back window, removed the TV and tried to load it into their Lexus. When it proved too big, they left it on the curb and drove away. The Sacramento Bee reports that a neighbour witnessed the crime and called the police, who traced the car to a 19-year-old man. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property. Police are still looking for two suspected accomplices. California Thieves Television Too Big

Workouts for Bigger Arms

Workouts for Bigger Arms - Dude, I’ve been there. You’re young, you want bigger arms by summer, and you’re ready to train yourself into the ground trying to get them. Believe me, I know. I come from a serious lifting background (I ran my own hardcore gym for more than 10 years), and I understand the mentality: “Never leave a rep in the tank and always lift heavy.” And while I wouldn’t say that way of thinking is all wrong (my old training buddies would kick my ass if I did), it does need to be controlled. Learning to harness your animal instincts in the gym will go a long way toward getting those arms this summer, and it's the key take-home lesson in the program that follows. Workouts for Bigger Arms After all, a lot of guys just like to do reps. They pick up some dumbbells and start curling until they can’t lift their arms anymore. Then they rest and repeat, knocking out set after set, all the while thinking more is better. But if brute effort were all it took to make progres

Rupert Everett Slams Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston will have one too many total flops, but she's still a member of that (A-list) club, and she will still manage to ... like a star forming in the universe, things will swirl around her and it will suddenly solidify into another vital tasteless romcom, you know, a little glitter next to the Crab Nebula. Rupert Everett Slams Jennifer Aniston Everett then muses about whether or not Firth, who seems to be on track for a second consecutive best actor Oscar nomination for The King's Speech, has robbed gay actors of coveted roles. The government will also discuss a plan to allow shoppers who pay for goods or services using debit cards in stores to round up the cost of purchases and donate the difference. UK Seeks Charity ATM Donations Cabinet Office minister Francis Maude said the proposals are among a host of potential policies aimed at increasing donations to British charities — including opening up landmark government buildings for public events, or adding a voluntary levy to orders at takeaway restaurants. Get Rid of Wrinkles Without Surgery

Get Rid of Wrinkles Without Surgery - Everyone will get wrinkles as they age. Due to the sun's damaging rays, repeated facial movements and loss of skin elasticity, wrinkles form. There are various surgical procedures you can undergo to get rid of wrinkles, such as face lifts, brow lifts and eye lifts. You can, however, remove wrinkles without surgery. Here are some tips. Moisturize your skin. Loss of skin elasticity and moisture leads to wrinkles. You can counteract this loss by hydrating your skin. Apply a nutrient-rich moisturizer to your skin twice daily. Aim to apply it to clean skin first thing in the morning and again at night, just before bed. Since your skin can handle a heavier moisturizer at night, opt for a richer night cream. Protect against the sun's damaging rays. Every time you are in the sun, its rays contribute to your wrinkles. Protect your skin by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF rating. Is 40 Really the New 30? - I always believed that 40 would be the new 30-and that's when I was 30! I always was one of the exceptions to the rule. Now that I am 43, I definitely know and feel it. I had been running since I was in my mid-teens (1980), swept up in the running craze that started in the 1970's. I maintained my running through almost three decades and it paid off in enormous health dividends, keeping that realization alive in me that age was just a chronological measurement. That we did not have to act (and sometimes look) like the seniors did in previous generations. We became more self aware of our health, physical appearance, and general well-being than during any time in modern human history. In part due to a quantum shift in thinking, partially brought on by the explosive exchange of information brought on by the Internet. Is 40 Really the New 30? I know that many of my generation did the same thing as I did, either running or some other form of athletic t

Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 4G Leaked

Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 4G Leaked - Wondering what Verizon’s HTC Thunderbolt 4G looks like? Well, if these leaked photos show the real handset, it’s nothing more than a slightly different version of the Desire HD / Evo 4G. Of course, that’s not a bad thing. Like the Evo 4G (but unlike the Desire HD), the Thunderbolt has a kickstand on the back and a front-facing camera for video calling. The specs of the Thunderbolt 4G aren’t known at the moment. Anyway, the display seems to be a 4.3 inch WVGA one, the photo camera is likely an 8MP one, and the processor should be clocked at 1GHz or higher. Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 4G Leaked

"After 2002, participants in 401(k) plans, who once believed they could outperform the market on their own, started looking for help. Employers are now coming up with solutions and you see that in a lot of the automated features now available." New Trends Retirement Planning Take automatic enrollment, for instance. Celebrity Plastic Surgery Disasters

Celebrity Plastic Surgery Disasters - Reality television star Heidi Montag has had more than 10 plastic surgery procedures and one year later — following her whole body extreme makeover — she says it was her addiction to perfection that ruined her career. During a photo shoot this month, Heidi Montag, the star who went way too far with beauty makeovers, told the mag photogs that the scars she now bears are a constant negative reminder she went too far in her insane quest for superficial perfection. Celebrity Plastic Surgery Disasters “I would love not to be a plastic girl or whatever they call me. Surgery ruined my career and personal life and just brought a lot of negativity into my world. I wish I could jump into a time machine and take it all back. Robot Waiters China

Robot Waiters China - While it sounds a little freaky at first, a restaurant in China just may be on to something brilliant with its robot staff. From servers to greeters and even entertainers, robots are doing the work typically done by humans at the appropriately named Dalu Robot restaurant. And yes, that includes real robots doing the Robot Dance. Besides being totally Jetsons-cool, there's a lot of practicality to be had by their use. At about $6,000 a pop, a robot only costs about as much as three or four months' salary for humans doing the same job. Assuming they're pretty robust and reliable robots, they seem like a screaming deal. Plus, think of all of the other amazing perks for restaurant owners and patrons if bitchy/moody/snotty/uppity/tired/lazy/etc. humans were removed from the picture. We might all enjoy our meals a little bit more. Robot Waiters China

Exploding Bakeware

Exploding Bakeware - Let's say your Christmas dinner ham has been cooking in a Pyrex glass baking dish at 350 F. Then, when you open the oven door, Boom! Shards of sharp glass explode toward you like some homemade bomb. According to a shocking investigative report in the January issue of Consumer Reports, it's a possibility when using Pyrex or Anchor Hocking. Exploding Bakeware "The baking dish just exploded as my daughter was about to touch it," Patricia Szczcenia of Lansing, Illinois told the magazine. She's not the only one to report such an event. So many complaints have been filed with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and others that World Kitchen, the Illinois-based manufacturer of Pyrex in the U.S. (since 1998, when it purchased Pyrex), and competitor Anchor Hocking have found it necessary to post pages on their websites that attempt to debunk the reports. Consumer Reports' new study is going to make the debunking a whole lot harder.

Forever Stamps

Forever Stamps - Postal patron Sean Swilling is tired of the inconvenience that comes with every change in the price of mailing a letter. That makes him just the type of customer the U.S. Postal Service wants to please with a policy designating all new first-class stamps as "forever." Beginning in January, all new stamps good for 1 ounce of domestic first-class mail will forgo a printed denomination and be acceptable for the typical letter regardless of the current postal rate. "I think that's a great idea," Swilling, a research analyst for commercial property, said Tuesday during a mail run at a downtown Washington post office. "For me, a guy who uses snail mail regularly, it's a hassle to get 1- or 2-cent stamps. Streamline things — that would be perfect." Forever Stamps The move is designed to help customers cope with postage increases, a Postal Service official told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The official requested anonymity to d

Tax Refund Loans

Tax Refund Loans - Are the tax gods conspiring against tax refund anticipation loans? It appears so. The partnership between the nation's largest tax preparation firm and its refund loan lender is over.
