Is 40 Really the New 30?

Is 40 Really the New 30? - I always believed that 40 would be the new 30-and that's when I was 30! I always was one of the exceptions to the rule. Now that I am 43, I definitely know and feel it. I had been running since I was in my mid-teens (1980), swept up in the running craze that started in the 1970's. I maintained my running through almost three decades and it paid off in enormous health dividends, keeping that realization alive in me that age was just a chronological measurement. That we did not have to act (and sometimes look) like the seniors did in previous generations. We became more self aware of our health, physical appearance, and general well-being than during any time in modern human history. In part due to a quantum shift in thinking, partially brought on by the explosive exchange of information brought on by the Internet.

Is 40 Really the New 30?

I know that many of my generation did the same thing as I did, either running or some other form of athletic training, and a new awareness of mind and body. Couple that with a much better nutritional awareness in herbs, vitamins and proper diet and we're all a lot healthier. These cancer-fighting, anti-heart disease and life prolonging nutritionals were backed up by better conventional medical diagnosis and treatments. For the first time in history, there was a unique marriage between alternative and modern medical treatments. Through the Internet, this knowledge spread like wildfire.

All of these things contributed to the quantum shift in our thinking that, in part, allowed us to be the new 30 when we were 40 plus. There was enough of us doing it to create this paradigm shift. There were still those of my generation who steadfastly refused to follow us, sticking to the 'old ways' of health and attitude. They did achieve some degree of better health through the new medicines and technologies, but they could truly not be called the new 30...the attitude just was not there. Attitude is basically part of it.
