Growth In Cleantech Jobs

Growth In Cleantech Jobs - The Sacramento region has led the state in job growth in the clean-tech sector over the past 13 years and is now home to more than 13,000 clean-tech jobs, according to a report released Monday by the Green Capital Alliance.

Green Capital Alliance is a public-private partnership that works to attract clean-tech businesses to the six-county region and streamline government permitting.

The study, “Advancing the Clean Energy Economy in California’s Capital Region,” offers a five-year progress report on efforts to transition the region toward a green economy. The report documents pivotal moments that have helped to move the region in that direction, from the formation of Partnership for Prosperity, a collaborative planning effort to create a regional economic development strategy, in 2005 to the region’s ability in recent years to secure more than $250 million in federal economic stimulus funds for clean technology and energy efficiency initiatives.

The report documents regional job growth data, business attraction efforts and success stories in the clean energy sector.

It cites a 2009 Next 10 report that shows Sacramento as the fastest growing region in the state with 87 percent job growth across all green segments between 1995 and 2008. It also cites Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance studies that indicate the number of businesses in the sector has grown from 29 in 2005 to 98 early this year.
